I see you guys roughed another one of those tough SEC teams. What a horrible conference. There are only two decent teams in the entire conference, Kentucky and the vuls. Everybody else is awful. Also nice to play at home where you can maul guys trying to drive in for layups and the refs call it clean blocks. Must be nice. Oh also when the vanderbilt guy had a clean block on chism and he jumps up and gets in the guys face. The vandy guy said nothing and yet it was a double technical? Yep, good to play at home huh.
While you were playing that kind of team ...at home. Memphis went on the road to a very hostile Southern Miss arena. The place is small and the fans are loud. Vols would have lost this one for sure. We all know how rattled the vols get on the road in games like that (see Temple game). Tigers pulled out a 20 point win after only leading at the half by 3. Tigers should be a top 5 team come monday. I know you are happy about that.
The SEC is horrible? A "hositile" Southern Miss? HAHA Surely you can't be serious? Yeah, Memphis is good playing in a Mid-Major conference like the C-USA. If UT played teams like Southern Miss and the other Conference USA "teams", we would go undefeated every year like Memphis. Even my local university, East Tennessee State, could drop one on Southern Miss in their own arena. Good win today. GO VOLS!
Sorry, but FauxNews suxx!! And most of America knows it.
Don't really understand why anybody is talking about "FauxNews" here, but even Rupert knows it's only entertainment: "All the news you want to hear just the way you wanted to hear it, spun just the ONLY RIGHT way!" As to how to stop Meeks: Who knows, but if anybody does, it is Pearl. Note: Patterson didn't play today and Meeks carried the day.

Here we have another insightful analysis from a Tiger High supporter from the crime pit of America (Memphis is in the top ten), so the comment about getting it in a drive by may come to pass. Memfuss really should be embarrased by even trying to compare the C-USA with a real athletic conference.
I love beating down Peabody! Does anybody remember when Vandy fans would always say during football season, "wait 'til basketball season!" They never could live up to those words even in our 20 year slump! We have around a 38 game lead over them in the series. That means they would have to beat us twice a year for nineteen years just to get back to even. We dominate you Vandy! Always have, always will!
Great Job Vols! now go get the road win in Oxford.
And what Vol had the greatest fade away, turnaround jump shot of all time? Jimmy England - not on the all Century Team? WTF? A disgrace to whomever put that team together!
Dear Mike Slime, Instead of listening to your favorite tiny stones Meyer cry about what someone said that hurt his sorry little feelings, open your eyes and get every ref from the SEC into your office. This is the worst bunch of blind idiots of any confrence nationwide! We as SEC fans should be ashamed of what we have. I can't think of one official from this confrence that does a fair job. Now that I got that out of the way congratulations to the VOLS on a great win today.
Smokey, You're dead on,SEC Refs, without question the worst in the country.Go Vols!!!
I doubt any TN fans here are "Tyler haters." The fact that he's had a number of games that were phooey and got some heat for his performance doesn't qualify as hating. The fact that he has now played ONE SEC game this year in which he looked like a POY candidate doesn't really change much either. Do it SIX more times and none of this will be an issue.
anybody doubting Tyler Smith is a COMPLETE FOOL! UT would be in deep trouble without him or Chism.
Nobody doubts what Tyler is capable of nor that TN would not be good at all without him this year. But the fact is that he played his BEST game of the year against the second worst team in the league and has not produced to his capabilities in numerous other games. The fact is also that he IS overrated in terms of being a 1st rounder because he'll be fortunate to be drafted at all absent a huge showing the rest of the season. Not bashing, just stating the facts.
Volinsider - yep, nothing sweeter than beating the whining Peabodies from West End. It always amazes me how they act like they are so superior to us in BB. What have they ever done? As you mentioned, we hold a huge lead in the overall series. I compared overall records several years ago, and I think there was only one decade where they had a winning record against us. Of course, when you look at their football success (or lack thereof), I guess BB does seem to be going pretty well.
How old are you? "Great to see him get some quality PT????" HE'S STARTED ABOUT FIVE GAMES AND PLAYS 20+ MINUTES EVERY NIGHT!!!! What QUALITY PT are you talking about moron!!!???
As for KY - Meeks got 18 of his 54 against TABB last time. Still want Tabb to "smother" him??? The answer to Meeks is team defense which TN played virtually none of last time - unless of course you define team defense as having the entire team guard him at some point or another.
It won't happen because BP is too bullheaded but TN should simply double him every time he touches it inside 30 feet, force him to give it up under pressure, and make everybody else beat you. With a gimpy Patterson (if he plays at all), KY cannot beat TN without Meeks getting at least 30 - but TN also cannot stop him playing straight man on him either.
Do us all a favor and tell us the real numbers on the crowd, not the announced crowd. Sounds like the KNS is subservient to the UTK SID, Not good reporting. We don't need FOX NEWS!!! They so enough damage on your news side.
What are you? An IRS accountant??? Why does it matter? The NCAA and SEC count sold tickets so that is what EVERY school announces. Hell Bama announced 10,000 plus yesterday and there were at least that many EMPTY seats in view on TV!

I don't have any inside info or anything, but, i think Patterson is out for more than just the Arkansas game, the announcers for the game yesterday said that he was still limping quite badly, He may not be back until the the Fla. game, with that being said It may come down to a 3 way race for our division, Fla, Tenn. And South Carolina.

Thanks for the Info, I think Meeks can carry your team for a few games if needed, so no way would I discount the Cats. I think Fl is pretty much done for this year and not sure about SC although they are winning ugly...To me it looks like a 2 way race with TN and KY. If we (TN) can just shut down Meeks, will be in a good position. Either way we need 1 out of the 3 (SC, KY, FL) to have a chance.
GOOD GOOD GOOD. Alright! I can't believe Pearl wasn't happy with Smith's rebounds?! What a game! I saw some Intensity today. And way to go Georgia!!
I can! Best 33 minutes UT played all year. Got sloppy at the end. IF Smith does more often what he did today this team is hard to beat. Its nice to see Prince playing the way he is. I thought today was his best game. I was glad that for the time the game was competitive, I did not see one bonehead.
When this team doesn't beat themselves they are an NCAA team. If we can somehow get the press working (and I am seeing signs of it) this team can become dangerous.
LMFAO!!! IF Pearl KNOWS how to stop Meeks why didn't it happen a few weeks ago?????
UT doesn't have a stopper. I think we may see a diamond and two or a box and one. I don;t think coach has every done it before but I am sure he will do something different then he did in Knoxville

You have a good point there, everything is still up in the air as far who can win this division, SC does win ugly but it's still a win, i personally think at this point LSU is the best team. Fla is so-so away from home but pretty good at their place, Tenn has shown some spark the last two games, it will makes for a good finish to the conference season, I am loking forward to some great nail-biting basketball the next few games.
The team played well yesterday. It seemed everyone stepped up their game. However,I still see too many possessions that are not valued enough. We get really sloppy at times with the ball and that has to stop. The tournament teams value each possession and average a higher per trip down the floor score.
When we pressed successfully in the past three years we had several more possessions than our opponents and could afford to play loose. That was kind of our attitude since if we lost a possession it didn't matter so much because we would just steal it right back. Now,in a more controlled game,we need to protect the ball better to win. We probably would have won the LSU game, the second Gonzaga game and certainly the Auburn game if we took better care of the ball on every possession. The last two games have been an improvement but we must get better at this.
Tyler played like a champion and Prince was everywhere...we need his Dad to show up all the time. Intensity has picked up finally and we are beginning to play defense.
I would still like to see Negedu get more minutes...he is wasted sitting on the bench. That young man is a beast and what athleticism...he runs the floor like a track star. When a team has to start fouling us at game end he certainly should be in there to shoot freethrows.
Negedu has the skills to be an NFL receiver with his speed, leaping ability, hands and his 6'9" frame...let him play football too. Who could stop him?
Good convincing for the VOLS, congrats, looking forward to a good game in Rupp.
How is Patterson doing? I know we will probably have a better chance of winning without him, but he is a fine player with a great future and I hear he is even a good guy. We will have our work cut out for us in any case. Hope we can make it a good game!
Agree with all. Maze continues to be a key. When HE brings it, the whole team runs better. SEVERAL of these guys need to make better decisions on their drives--still too many turnovers and charges in majority-break situations. And that free-throw shooting! Please! Still, good win, but can we keep it up? Really need to win at Ole Miss Wednesday!
Do us all a favor and tell us the real numbers on the crowd, not the announced crowd. Sounds like the KNS is subservient to the UTK SID, Not good reporting. We don't need FOX NEWS!!! They so enough damage on your news side.
"Announced" attendance is the number of tickets sold or otherwise accounted for. That number comes out of the central ticket office and is available much earlier than actual attendance. That can only be known after admissions from several entrances are tabulated and is likely not available until hours after the deadline for these stories.
How is Patterson doing? I know we will probably have a better chance of winning without him, but he is a fine player with a great future and I hear he is even a good guy. We will have our work cut out for us in any case. Hope we can make it a good game!
Everything is kinda hush-hush, the announcers yesterday said that he was still limping pretty bad, The Lex. Herald is saying day-to-day, so who knows, I have friends that go to UK and they say that both Patterson and Meeks are great guys off the court, no egos or bighead at all. A rare combo these days, and thanks for the concern, I am expecting some good basketball next few days.
9-7 and depending on SECT may get us a 8 or 9 seed. I think those are the 2 worst seeds in the tourney. They will battle to get out of the first round only to play one of the top 4 teams in the country after a scrimmage in the first round. We need to avoid the 8 or 9 seed.
Very true; it is NOT enough just to get into the tourney. Seeding makes a LOT of difference. That is why careless losses like Auburn hurt this team so much. Unfortunately, it won't matter that much where we are seeded. I just don't see real Sweet Sixteen potential in this team.
LSU is playing scary good right now. IMHO, the race for the regular-season title is over. If there is an SEC team with more than Sweet Sixteen potential, it is probably the Tigers, the way they are going.
UT is playing much better. The next 5 could give us 3-4 wins. I just don't see us beating Ky, even without Patterson. Hope I am wrong. I would take 11-5 record in a heartbeat. Would lock up tourney bid.
Good read; looks like we MAY be figuring out how to take advantage of our length in the half-court, where sheer quickness and foot speed are less important.
UT doesn't have a stopper. I think we may see a diamond and two or a box and one. I don;t think coach has every done it before but I am sure he will do something different then he did in Knoxville
That would be a "triangle and two", but I agree with your basic point. We need to pull out ALL the stops the rest of the way. This is NOT the time to be trying to play a pat hand. Every opponent and every game situation is different, so BE BOLD, be flexible, innovate!

Well said, but UT has shown this "spark" of which you speak against two not-very-good teams at home. If they put the smack on Ole Miss, I will begin to believe that they have indeed turned it around, even if we lose Saturday at UK. I agree that lots of thrilling--if often ugly; props to SC--ball remains to be played.
Ouch! Hope that was a joke, GW. No game is worth a good player's career! There are lots of LEGAL things we can use, and I am sure we will. These are just games, not WAR!
