Looking at pearls ncaa tourney history here and the only time as u eloquently put it had his arse kicked was against louisville. Losing by one point and losing to the o state which went to the title doesnt sound bad if u ask me. And he only wins games in the Sec lets us count the non conference wins xavier marquette texas memphis need i go on. I'm not saying he is freakin wooden but u looking through this thru some kinda colored glasses just dont know which color.

See your point, but it is shot full of holes. Pearl has us playing against big time teams outside the conference. We have played teams like, Kansas, Texas, Gonzaga, Georgetown, Xavier, Memphis, to name a few. I think our strength of schedule has been very high especially the last two years, and we have won a good share of those games against those teams.

And the best is yet to come.

How apropos that a sleazy used car salesman who oversaw two programs (UMass & Memphis) being emasculated by the NCAA, while in both cases he skips town ahead of the law, is now the top man at the most penalized team in the history of the NCAA, regardless of the type of sport. In other words, more than UNLV basketball, Okahoma football, or any other school, regardless of the sport, UK hoops is tops. And yet their inflated sense of self worth has them believing that a guy who makes Pitino look like the proverbial choir boy won’t do the same to them that he’s done everywhere else. UK is willing to weigh the risk/reward factor of a return to what they perceive as their rightful, God given place at the top of the college basketball world vs. another meeting before the NCAA Infractions Committee. Did these guys not pay attention to what happened at Georgia when they chose the same path with Jim Harrick? The president of UGA, the “esteemed” Michael Adams, knew all about the baggage Harrick carried from both UCLA and Rhode Island, just as everyone else did at the time. But he wanted a “winner” to lead the Dawgs and so he and everyone else chose to ignore Harrick’s previous escapades. And look where it got them. And BTW, why in the hell after that and forcing the then AD, former coach Vince Dooley, to fire football coach Jim Donnan (who’s only transgression was that he couldn’t beat Florida or UT), is this guy even being considered to replace Myles Brand as the President of the NCAA? Remember Cats: what comes around, goes around and this sleazeball will NEVER change his penchant for getting programs in trouble and then abandoning ship.

Saying that Tennessee plays a weak schedule is not a valid argument. Since Pearl has been here our Strength of Schedule rating has not been below 6th in the nation and some years it was 1st. The SEC was down a little in basketball last year, but is typically a strong conference every year. One thing you can NEVER accuse Pearl of doing is scheduling a "Weak Schedule". Check the RPI history and then tell me he plays a Weak Schedule.

The reason Pearl 2008 Vols didn't win as much or look as good is because CBP didn't have the personnel to run his system. Like it or not, when the Vols can press and hit a few outside shots, they are tough to beat for anybody. NC level good? Probably a little shy on talent for that but bad news for most teams nonetheless. With better guard play and some outside shooting, they will be fine, Calipari or not. If not, they will struggle again. Go Vols!!!

While I like your spirit and attitude, it's not really accurate to assume that because BG/Porter beat UT, then Cal/Walls will because of better talent. BG ran the pearl antidote (slow, boring, throw-me-off-a-cliff-now basketball). Cal's system is exactly what UT prefers (see also other teams that try to play us fast -- SC and UF). This is the main reason we were able to beat Mem with Derrick Rose.

Frankly, I am happy to see BG gone and Cal there. Like you, I think it will make the rivalry more competitive...we just have different reasons.

Everyone who's coached at Kentucky from Rupp to Slick has had the resources to win without cheating. But excepting Pitino and Tubby (don't know about Billy) they cheated anyway.

It's a culture Scratch and you can't just wish it away.

Question for UK fans: Is it worth it to recruit like gangbusters, win big, go to the Final Four, hang a banner only to vacate the wins.

If it is, then knock yourself out. In your heart you know what's coming. Guys like Cal don't change.

The problem for UT when they play UK this year is there is no one that can guard Wall and Patterson on UT's roster. And they are really going to miss Negedu's physical play off the bench. Tyler Smith is the only Vol that could crack UK's top seven, that's a huge talent gap.

As far as Pearls records against Cal. isnt the point , the point is Cal has always had the better talent but Pearl found a way to beat him.
Like I said the only difference now is Cal. is at Ky and they are still going to be like mempuss, except now he has to do it in the sec not conf. usa and thats a big difference.

Why would you say Pearl knows Cal. has his number ? they are tied at 2-2. the bottom line is all 4 games Memphis was suppose to win, they were suppose to have the better team, better talent but it didnt happen that way. They come to knoxville ranked what in the top 10 in 06 and got blown out by 20 something and the next year were ranked #1 at home and lost and were favored in the 2 we lost but didnt get blown out.
It looks like to me Pearl with lesser talent teams has Cals. number but Im sure you wont agree with that.Just like now Cal. has better talent than Pearl and is suppose to win but I like Pearls chances against any Cal. team with his talent. This isnt conf. USA and he wont run through this conf. like he did that conf. you have to actually play teams that are good.
Cal is still Cal and it doesnt matter what blue he is wearing.

First, I was at the game that night and my hat is off to Meeks. That was one of the most impressive basketball performances I've ever seen in college. So no, I don't try to forget it, I can appreciate a great shooting night regardless of the player's jersey.

I still just don't understand the ASSumption by some that Cal will own the east and Pearl. What has he done (with equal or at least more proven talent at the time than now) in that past that would lead you to believe that??? As many have already stated, Cal has a worse record against Pearl than BG did. He built that .500 record with a #1 pick at pg and a roster full of NBA players. John Wall may or may not be better than Rose. We'll have to wait and see. Cal is an excellent "recruiter" and he will bring tremendous talent to UK, but as many experts constantly point out, he has never proven that he is hands down the best coach with that talent.

As I stated before (and agreed with you), it's going to be a competitive series....and a fun rivalry.

CatFan4Life writes:

The big difference between Cal at UK and Cal at Memphis and UMass is that at UK he has the compliance staff to make sure that no riff-raff gets into the university in the first place.

Secondly, Cal has never been implicated in any NCAA investigations.....EVER. The fact that UMass had it FF vacated was due to unilateral actions of one Marcus Camby. Coach Cal had no knowledge of the incident. At Memphis - the fact the Rose went to Detroit to take his ACT should have been a red flag.....for the Memphis admissions/compliance people AND the NCAA Clearinghouse. No coach dives into compliance issues such as this - they are way too busy dealing with the young men on their team and figuring out the X's and O's.

A lady named Sandy Bell at UK is the compliance director and makes sure everyone is clean as a whistle before they can be admitted to and cleared to play sports for UK.

Cal's reign shall be very long and outlandishly successful. He has assembled the most talented team he has ever coached in his first year at UK. More of the same to follow in the next few decades.

But enough basketball - I'm looking forward to closing the year out at Commonwealth Stadium and breaking the streak against the Vols this year!

Kentucky fans are, sadly, shortsighted, insular and myopic. It bothers then to no end that they aren't the big dog anymore. Haven't been for a while now. While their tradition and legacy are as strong as anyone, they can't stomach the fact that little, bitty programs like UT's have caught up with them.

They confuse the fact that while UT doesn't have the same tradition as UK by any stretch of the imagination, this is about the here and now. And what's here and now is UT and Bruce Pearl.

No one who loves orange gives a rat's butt about what John Calipari thinks about UT and Pearl. The simple fact remains - and it's one Calipari is eminently aware of: UT men's basketball is a now a legit player. If UK fans want to whine, moan and launch insults, fair enough.

But UT isn't going away. The old days of UT being a doormat are over...and this bothers UK fans quite a bit more than they're willing to admit. But in the end - does anyone really care? Calipari is good for the SEC but it has to be an adjustment for him that unlike his previous conference, he's not the only show in town.

In fact, he's not even the main event. This, too, bothers UK fans. But they insist otherwise. They insist they don't worry about us.

Sure they don't.
