I don't think this team is special and have never said that. If the team is average at best, why is everyone complaining when they get beat? Give these guys credit for beating teams nobody thinks they can. People thought SC would beat them becuase no one could guard Downey. With some of these comments I guess people don't think they will win another game.

stop blameing thr refs. This is simply not a top 20 team and may never be one.The refs did give Vandy the calls tonight, but we get them at home.It is plain and simple. We were out played and bad as I hate to admit it,we were out coached. This team will not equal last years SEC finish but will equal last years tournament finishes.Completely basketball ignorant in most all phases of the game.Too out of control at all times.

Boy - when they don't want to play they really mail them in. Ugly.

Prediction - we win 4 more plus 1 game in the SEC tournament. We get a 6 seed and lose the second game in the dance.

Looking forward to the new recruits getting here to see what changes can be made in the line-up. We need some guys that know how to shoot. At least son Pearl will be graduated. Maybe Goins, Hall and McBee can take it up another level.

Best post yet..This is a bad shooting incomplete team that plays good defense.Totally looking forward to see what 2 new shooting guards bring to the table..

Let's try to look at this a little objectively:

-- This was an ugly loss, any way you slice it.
-- Free throw disparity was part of the problem. The reffing was not balanced. Fact.
-- But, some lack of effort by Vols (mainly in first half) also played a part.
-- This is a very good Vandy team; it was going to take a solid game to win, and we didn't deliver a solid game.
-- There were some good plays, and some good assists, and lots of effort on defense. Vandy just played better, and seemed to have a better game plan.

Prediction: team will learn from this, will play better against the Cats, and will win at least two in the SEC tourney and two in the Big Dance.

And will be still better next year.

Going four minutes before scoring a fg is not a good recipe for beating any team on the road. They got away with vs SC at home. Last year at Rupp i don't think they scored their first fg until 6 or 7 minutes had gone by. Do that Saturday and they will not make it close.

Ironcity writes:

UT is a very soft team. Not a characteristic of Pearl teams in the past. These guys better toughen up. Hopson, McBee, Hall, Prince and Woolridge wanted no part of this type of game.

The refs were horrible but our guys (except for Chism) looked and acted like a bunch of babies. I do feel sorry for Williams, a month away still hasn't stopped the refs from calling phantom fouls on him and I believe there is an SEC rule that states nothing constitutes a foul when you are covering Brian Williams. I think I might go out rather then watch the impending thrashing on Saturday.

You just talked out both ends. you admitted UT would have lost with or without the refs, and then said they decided the outcome... at least now i know I don't have to waste my time responding to you, as you obviously don't even proofread your own posts. I will agree with you on one point... responding to idiotic posts has made me tired. goodnight, friend.

It's interesting you say that... i literally just went to utsports to look at their past records, and man was it UGLY! Better players? Before the season started we lost Negedu and Tabb. Then we lost Smith.Williams just coming back and Tatum hurt.Having said that the Vols had a bad game.Hubert Davis said tonite how the Vols are a dangerous team, but also capable of losing in the first round.I agree with that statement. At our best we beat Kansas, and at our worst we get destroyed by Southern Cal.Vandy is a very good team.Go Vols, beat Kentucky!

You gotta make a high percentage of these freebies. Vols can't do it. CBP has done a great job with what he has to work with.

Just thinking about Wade Houston and the last part of the Devoe era always makes watching the current team palatable, win or lose. I remember when the only way we made headlines was by Carlus Groves pantsing Shaq or losing by 40-60 pts. a couple of times a year. Ahhh, the days of the Big Orange Echo Chamber, The Mistake by the Lake, or the Lack of Support curtains in the upper deck. Nah, this aint so bad.

I totally agree...I am no college coach and i can take a Vandy team and pick them apart...No hustle...tell them to hit the boards cause UT just dont want it...and foul them...that is how easy it is to beat the VOLS right now...If Ole Miss and Florida would have brought some bench players in at the end to send them to the line it could have been different

I got to tell you I just don't like Goins game. He hogs the ball, doesn't run the offense dribbles way to much forces shots, hasn't realized that he is a horrible 3 point shooter and he makes everyone around him worse. Throw on top of that he has zero basketball IQ. He definitely plays better on ball defense but other then that I would take Maze or Bone over him every day of the week.

As you can probably tell he is my least favorite Vol.

It was not 30pts,more like about 18.The fact that we competed so well wih an Ohio State team that sent at least 3 guys to the NBA says something about our coach and our team.

The fact of the matter is Hopson is the only player we have that can both shoot from the three line and also drive it. He does have a bad game every third or forth game but thats typical for a 2nd year player. We need more consistency out of him but putting him on the bench guarantees failure. This team really lacks toughness. I have said it before but we really need someone else to step up. As crazy as this sounds we need Woolridge to grow a set and start shooting with confidence. Coach Pearl has really shown a lot of patience with him and its time he reward coach for that. We can't compete with good teams with only Chism and Hopson being viable scoring options.

ALLVol_in_OHIO writes:

The Vols were knocked around the entire game and we got touchy-fouls.

Plus Vandy has NO CLASS if you have to play like a bunch of thugs. Like backyard ball.

If I were the UT coach I would've gotten thrown out of the game. It was the worse I've ever seen. Wasn't even fun to watch it was so bad. ESPN lost alot of viewers because of the refs.

richvol writes:

I'm sorry but you can't blame this loss on the officiating. The Vols fouled over and over in critical situations and it's like giving the opponet two points as Vandy hits their freethrows.

This game was lost because Vandy is better coached and they have much more basketball IQ displayed by their players. Every player they had, with the exception of Chism,is better than ours.

We still took off balanced forced shots and ill advised shots all night. I never once saw Vandy take a bad shot and they pass the ball much more effectively than we do. As a matter of fact we struggled to even pass the ball all night.

They are better than we are and after watching them beat us soundly for the second time this season the difference lies in the type of player we are recruiting...we need SMARTER athletes on our basketball team...ones that take coaching better and apply it on the floor.

BradleyJKinkaid writes:

So much for the Big Orange beat down I wanted. It was a beat down alright, just not the right one.
