The fact Dooley is happy with a recruiting class that is 10th in the SEC according to Rivals and 8th in the SEC according to Scout is an excellent indication of just how out of touch this man is with reality.
We lost six coaches, lost to KY, and had a losing season. We actually finished 5th in the SEC according to rivals, which is the top half if you cant figure that out. What in the world did you expect to do?? Who is out of touch with reality again?? quit complaining!
AMEN!!! Being a former Vol..."fans" like this have no clue how much they hurt recruiting efforts to Tennessee! If you were a potential recruit for Tennessee & had no ties to this University, why in the hell would you sign here when "fans" bash the coaching staff & even the players!! They don't get it!!!!!!
First off, I doubt the posters on GoVolsXtra have that much influence over recruits. If they did, we would have signed Santos and Peters as we were gushing over them.
Second, if we do have influence and wind up with a new coach next year, you can thank us. I'll post an address for your card.
Come on man....i'm sure you have played major college football at a high level & know what the heck your talking about! Coach Dooley inherited a mess that no other coach wanted & is trying to rebuild & is doing a great job! If i didn't love my University that i gave blood, sweat & tears to, i wish they would fire him after next year so that all of you so called "fans" could really see what would happen to this program! You think it has been bad the last few years...you have no idea how bad it would get!
From the article negative recruiting was being used against the Vols coming off that loss to UK. If the Vols go another 5-7, no bowl appearance this fall can u imagine what recruiting will be like?
It has nothing to dow with what he says or does not say.
It has to do with how he feels about this class, "happy". How can he be happy with a recruiting class that is at the bottom of the SEC? Answer: He doesn't know the level of talent that it takes to win in the SEC.
If he was still in the WAC he'd have reason to be happy.
Will you just please go to a Cinci website. Please. Ignorance.
You've not answered my question because you cannot answer my question.
Dude, STFU!! Go root for the bearcats or something. It's little monkeys like you that feed all the histeria and BS that recruits read into on these sites and say "Why would I want to come play for those stupid fans?" So do us all a favor and go root for somebody else and keep your ignorant, lame brain, pathetic posts to your self....posters like you just suck the life out of everyone else that can actually see what is really going on. It's people like you that probably cheat their own kids at a game of candyland because integrity doesn't matter as long as the glitz and glimmer and win at any cost is there....What a loser!!!

Let em rant man. CDD will get an extension next year and the phooey used against him to recruits won't work. We got quality in this class and the future is great. Don't let the negab**ches bring you down.
We are not making progress and your comment is yet another example of sentimentalism and emotion that flies in the face of reality and hard facts.
Doesn't read like you give a flip about facts, but here goes:
-CDD didn't inherit a bad team- he inherited a terrible program, a terrible weight program, the weakest upper-classmen roster in UT history, major discipline problems, a clueless AD, a horrific schedule and- worst of all- incredibly un-educated expectations from folks like you.
Maybe what we need the most is to recruit a new class of VOLS fans! I have been around several major football schools and their fans are vastly different from the fans who seem to participate in this board and claim to support UT. With this kind of support, Dooley should just hang it up and go back to being a lawyer. It is really depressing to read this trash. Get a life folks!
And what Facts are you basing the prediction that this class won't be competitive in the SEC? Rankings of these classes don't mean a whole lot. Would I like a higher ranked class? Sure... But I will support the kids that signed up to play for my VOLS regardless of stars or rankings!
I think he is asking what you base your assumption on that Dooley is going to be a great coach. Nothing in his coaching resume, and I mean NOTHING, suggests that. I hope we do have a great year and many more to come. But the facts are: 1. Dooley has a losing record as a head coach, and 2. Tyler Bray has yet to win against a top tier SEC school.
WOW, your idiocy knows no bounds!! So you think a team full of freshman and sophomores should be able to hang with teams stocked full of SEC experienced upperclassmen?? REALLY??
Ok, so when we lose to Florida, Georgia, Bama, etc this year, are we still young? Dooley had better pray the cards fall in line for 8 or more wins, or you Doolaid drinkers are going to be upset when Hart looks for a real coach
Let em rant man. CDD will get an extension next year and the phooey used against him to recruits won't work. We got quality in this class and the future is great. Don't let the negab**ches bring you down.
LOL...Dooley will for sure not get an extension as he will be lucky if we win 8. He will be lucky to see year 4
Fulmer was the lead recruiter for Majors, who couldn't recruit. How has Dooley made the program better? 5-7 and 6-7. Dooley has no accomplishments or signature wins. On the Postive side the Vols have 3 great recievers and should rack up a ton of yards and hopefully some wins. I have been critical and I think rightly so but I can see a 8-4 year perhaps 9-3. Perhaps we all can be more positive and get things rolling in the right direction!!!
Johnny Majors couldn't recruit? Being from Sewanee, knowing him and his family, I'm admittedly prejudiced, but my memory is that recruiting was Majors's greatest strength, and how he won at Iowa State and Pitt....
In the immortal words of someone, " it aint about the Xs and Os, its about the Jimmys and the Joes". The ninth best class in the SEC will end up roughly in 9th place. We aint got Neyland coaching 'em here.
And what Facts are you basing the prediction that this class won't be competitive in the SEC? Rankings of these classes don't mean a whole lot. Would I like a higher ranked class? Sure... But I will support the kids that signed up to play for my VOLS regardless of stars or rankings!
Preach it! It's what happens on the field that will determine if this is a good class. GBO!
<<do you really think Fulmer or Saban coaches up....
Haynesworth, Henderson, jamal, Manning, goodrich, henry, stewart, berry, pickens, still, miller, clifton, carter, bryson,..stallworth, little, mayo, deon, whitten,..amsler..colquitt..mcklesky...and on and on
so easy a cave man can do it!>>
Tennessee didn't always have the #1 class, but Fulmer put more players in the NFL than any other program during his first 10 to 12 years. Compare that to Ray Goff that always had the #1 recruiting class but didn't put nearly as many in the pros. I don't think it's as simple as finding great players that coach themselves. It's talent and coaching.
Are you serious? You try to lay all the accomplishments on CPF. Do you not remember the names Chavis and Cutcliffe? THEY are the ones that made the difference in those players by bring out the best and the beast in them. CFP didn't put those players in the NFL, Chief and Cut did
I am excited as a vol fan because Dooley is not just recruiting good football players but good men that honor their commitments. So many 5 stars never pan out because they have the "me" syndrome. I will take a team of 3 and 4's all day long if they are good men. Given the time Dooley will not only have a great program but a field full of good men!! Go Big Orange.
Just doing some left-handed math,if you divide the total Rivals points for UT by the 20 players signed and extrapolate to 25, it would put the Vols at or near a Top 10 class. This means little or nothing, but the logic works as well as some of the logic of have read here. If it's true what I read somewhere, that 70% of the 5 star recruits never make it to their third year (look at UT's experience),then it's moot. We'll see what he does with his recruits. And, since Saban,et al, have over-signed, let's see who they cull out of their top group(gray-shirt) and how many of those look to transfer. It ain't over yet. GBO

drum, you talk way too sensible for some of these morons. They really are too clueless to realize that Coach Dooley took a job that no other coach wanted. The absolute craziest idea on this forum is that some big name coach would have stepped into the mess that UT had to offer. I am not saying that CDD is our savior but I am saying that he came in here dead set on making UT the best that he could. I think that as one of the other posters said Dooley is earning his pay and not just cashing checks. And for those who argue that this negative phooey doesn't affect young men just out of high school, how do you argue with someone who obviously has zero brain matter? I guess they have forgotten how easily influenced high school kids are.
We wil know exactly how good this class was in about four years. Until then it's all conjecture. We missed out on two good linebackers and a really good defensive lineman and that hurts, but we already had three great linebackers on the team and everything comes down to getting the most out of the guys we signed -- this year and last year.
UT has looked more like a team on major NCAA probation the past two years than USC ever will. The self-inflicted losses of 40-something players reduced the number of scholarship athletes to 60 in 2010. USC will never get that low unless Kiffin decides to try the NFL again. And with his recruiting staff, they will have 4- and 5-star guys two-deep at every position. Most of the guys UT signed yesterday will see the field. A lot of the guys LSU and Alabama signed will pick a lot of splinters out of their butt, so maybe they'll transfer to UT in a year or two. See, the orange-ade tastes better when the glass is half-full.
It's time for everyone to shut up and pull for the team. I don't care what you think about the coach. Up until now he has been like a boxer with a broken right hand. We will finally get to see him play most teams on a fairly even basis. If he goes 6-6 or 7-5 and you want to run him off, so be it. But UT has its two biggest games at home and if Bray is the starting QB he will have a bunch of great targets, even if Hunter is not up to speed this season. 9-3 sounds right.
Oh, and whoever said Majors couldn't recruit: Ever hear of Tony Dorsett? The recruiting rules changed drastically on Johnny and he didn't adjust that well, but he signed more than 100 players in one recruiting season at Pitt. I don't think he had much trouble closing, do you?
The results are in, and maybe a few more may be picked up actually.
Please guys, let's not waste our time now playing ping pong with the trolls like Born2ride and CincyVol. This is what they do........negative Nancys.
Don't waste time with them. When you see clowns like these along with Jeff Flowers etc, you know what you're going to get. Just recognize the names and let the trolls play with each other.
Ok, so when we lose to Florida, Georgia, Bama, etc this year, are we still young? Dooley had better pray the cards fall in line for 8 or more wins, or you Doolaid drinkers are going to be upset when Hart looks for a real coach
Doolaid drinkers? That's the best you've got? Grow up. I'm just not stupid or delusional enough to think that our team should have done more than they did after the last few years.
Coach Dooley and the remnants of his depleted staff did a great job under some very difficult circumstances. We got some guys who will probably be great football players. If we were in any other conference other than the SEC I would be very optimistic. Unfortunately, 8 or 9 of the other teams in the confernece recruited just as well or better than we did. Hopefully, Coach Dooley and our new staff will be able to take the new guys and 'coach 'em up', which the staff last year could not do. They knew they had problems with the offensive line and did nothing to improve the situation. They had problems on special teams and no improvement was made. There were apparently problems with 'egos and attitudes' which probably cost us the Kentucky game. Good football coaches figure out what is wrong and correct the situation. Good football teams respond to good coaching. We will probably have a better team this year. The schedule is easier. The team has more experience and depth. We got some good recruits who can probably make an impact. Hopefully, some guys who were injured will be healthy and can help out. Realistically, even given the the huge amount of money we spend on recruiting, we will not be able to gain on the premier teams in the SEC (Alabama, Florida, LSU and as much as it pains me to include them, South Carolina). Recruiting on a par with Miss. State, Kentucky and Vandy simply won't cut it. Even with our traditions, our facilities, and our massive recruiting budget, it appears that we are no longer an elite program. As Coach Dooley said in his press conference, "The main thing is the main thing," and that is doing what great coaches do. You win all the games you are supposed to win and some you are supposed to lose." When that happens, Tennessee will once again be an elite program.
I do not understand why Dooley ran kids off when he does not have a full class. Can someone please explain this to me? GBO!!
It means that he is still looking at offering other prospects that are better than those guys were....a la Saban. It's sucks to play with kids emotions like that, but it's big time football today. If their chances of seeing the field are slim to none, they might as well go where they have a chance to play. There may be some JUCO's out there UT is after??
Has anyone mentioned yet that we lost to Kentucky?
Thanks for stating the obvious, genious. How did you get so smart? I'm truly amazed at your level of intelligence! I bet your I.Q. is off the charts! Look at the brain on Tombo!
For the sake of argument let's assume that there is very little difference between class #1 and #25, ie a couple of players.
In 2010 we had the #9 team, in 2011 we had the #13 team according to Rivals. Why then if we are just a couple of players away from #1 do we still have losing seasons?
It couldn't be the coaching ability of Dooley could it?
Wow, not so bright my friend. Big difference between Freshman and Sophs and Juniors and Seniors. Good Class, really good inlight of evidently slanderous recruiting tactics by rivals and change in staff. Go Vols I think we are on our way.
The fact Dooley is happy with a recruiting class that is 10th in the SEC according to Rivals and 8th in the SEC according to Scout is an excellent indication of just how out of touch this man is with reality.
Incorrect. We finished 6th in the SEC according to Rivals and at no time in the last month were we 10th.
And by now, Kiffin would have had us on probation worse than SMU got.
The NCAA never found any violations on the Kiffin regime !!!...besides look how probation is effecting Ohio St and USC , they are getting better recruiting classes and winning more than Tennessee just not going to a bowl game the same as Tennessee this year plus not getting beat by a terrible Ky team!! Just remember WINNING IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN PROBATION !!!!!
The fact Dooley is happy with a recruiting class that is 10th in the SEC according to Rivals and 8th in the SEC according to Scout is an excellent indication of just how out of touch this man is with reality.
Yet you still come here everyday and troll. Show some class every now and then. I'm sure you could do it if you would remove your head from your rectum.
man, you guys need to give Dooley a break. He has not done a great job like Fulmer did for the first 12 years but Fulmer inherited a pretty good program and made it better. Dooley inherited a nightmare that truth be told few good coaches would want. He doesnt have a top 5 class like we want and like Fulmer used to get us but he has had more junk to deal with than any coach in the SEC. No other program has been in the state of chaos that UT was in and he is making it better. I think he will not last as coach but give the man some credit for working thru some really bad things and bad luck as well. Try to do like Dooley and be happy for a few minutes before whining about what we didnt get
The fact remains that Fulmer was fired one year after we played in the SEC championship game! That's right SEC East winner one year...fired the next. How close to SEC East champs are we now? Having a top 10 class is great unless it's only top 10 in the SEC.
The fact Dooley is happy with a recruiting class that is 10th in the SEC according to Rivals and 8th in the SEC according to Scout is an excellent indication of just how out of touch this man is with reality.
You and others making ignorant statements like this are idiots. Clueless so-called VOLS fans come on here and post pure BS - and it certainly can build to a point where it sways a great player like Peters to go somewhere else. Nice job. Move along and find another team. Go VOLS!
The fact Dooley is happy with a recruiting class that is 10th in the SEC according to Rivals and 8th in the SEC according to Scout is an excellent indication of just how out of touch this man is with reality.
I agree with you 100%.. Dooley says it's hard to feel better than he did yesterday. He might try winning a few ball games and see how that feels. It's hard to believe that no offensive linemen were recruited because we have last years starters returning. They did not do the job last year and will not this year. You do not recruit 8th or 10th in the SEC and expect to win many football games.
Okay, everyone got your fun in. The Nega-Dooleys and the pro-Dereks. Look friends, like him or not, like the 2012 class or not, he is still the head coach and these are our new guys. He will be the head coach of the University of Tennessee football team until...this site becomes 95% against him? NO! until...people look and see that he cannot beat Nick Saban in recruiting? NO! Not even when so many spew out so much negativity on here over and over again. It will only happen when a)he decides to resign, b)the powers which be and who put him in decide they can take no more Dooley-ball. So I suggest we at least try and get along as alleged fans. Our junky postings and our "opinions" mean absolutely nothing. By the way, we have no idea how the team will play this fall, how many wins, losses etc. So can we try to be try to be true Vols fans and move on with our lives(ifwehaveonesbeyondgettingonhere).
i dont look at stars. just look what frank beamer does yr after yr with top 50 classes not top 10
Are you suggesting that Dooley has the same capacity to coach players up as Beamer ? Dooley's history is mediocre recruiting-medicocre performance. That isn't troll-eyed negativity---it's just the cold, hard facts.
The fact Dooley is happy with a recruiting class that is 10th in the SEC according to Rivals and 8th in the SEC according to Scout is an excellent indication of just how out of touch this man is with reality.
actually the VOLS are 7th in the sec which is middle of the pack. its a 14 team league now. so considering the way last year and the offseason went dooley did a GREAT job holding it together. and btw if you count tino thomas(grey shirted last year) the VOLS would be ahead of lsu and maybe a&m putting them 5th in the sec. but dont let facts get in your way.

It continues to amaze me when I read stupid statements about Dooley by people who write before they take the time to actually look at all the obstacles he and his staff had to overcome. And one of the biggest obstacles is negative so-called fans who continually look for things to gripe about rather than look for positives, and there are plenty of positives.

Check out Beamer's record his first 5 years. He also has the luxury of a FULL team made up of mostly upper classmen in a weaker conference.
I was never more proud of a Vols team than I was the one in Dooley's first year. However, I don't think I have been more disappointed by a Vols team than the one in Dooley's 2nd year--they seemed to quit. They especially seemed to quit after halftime in most of their games. Yes, they played against some deeper teams, but they also laid down against MTSU, lost to a horrific KY team, etc.
Someone made the comment that Bray told some of the seniors after the KY loss that it didn't really matter b/c they would only going to be going to a "sh*tty" bowl game anyway.
"IF" that is true, "IF" these younger players sabotaged or laid down/quit, then that is possibly one of THE worst coaching jobs ever.
If the "idiots" are running the asylum, we're in trouble as a football team for years to come.

I hope I'm wrong.
If it's true that Bray said that, what I hear is a young man disappointed and rationalizing his disappointment. That's something you say after a bad loss, and you're angry. It doesn't mean he didn't care, it just means he was mad and was making a "sour grapes" comment.

Do not even read their silly posts friends.
We'll do fine without them........all losers.

I do not understand why Dooley ran kids off when he does not have a full class. Can someone please explain this to me? GBO!!

Thanks for stating the obvious, genious. How did you get so smart? I'm truly amazed at your level of intelligence! I bet your I.Q. is off the charts! Look at the brain on Tombo!

Wow, not so bright my friend. Big difference between Freshman and Sophs and Juniors and Seniors.
Good Class, really good inlight of evidently slanderous recruiting tactics by rivals and change in staff.
Go Vols I think we are on our way.

Incorrect. We finished 6th in the SEC according to Rivals and at no time in the last month were we 10th.

Yet you still come here everyday and troll. Show some class every now and then. I'm sure you could do it if you would remove your head from your rectum.

The fact remains that Fulmer was fired one year after we played in the SEC championship game! That's right SEC East winner one year...fired the next. How close to SEC East champs are we now? Having a top 10 class is great unless it's only top 10 in the SEC.

You and others making ignorant statements like this are idiots. Clueless so-called VOLS fans come on here and post pure BS - and it certainly can build to a point where it sways a great player like Peters to go somewhere else. Nice job. Move along and find another team. Go VOLS!
rockytopinga writes:
I agree with you 100%.. Dooley says it's hard to feel better than he did yesterday. He might try winning a few ball games and see how that feels. It's hard to believe that no offensive linemen were recruited because we have last years starters returning. They did not do the job last year and will not this year. You do not recruit 8th or 10th in the SEC and expect to win many football games.
VOLliven2it writes:
So can we try to be try to be true Vols fans and move on with our lives(ifwehaveonesbeyondgettingonhere).
bkgunter writes:
Are you suggesting that Dooley has the same capacity to coach players up as Beamer ? Dooley's history is mediocre recruiting-medicocre performance. That isn't troll-eyed negativity---it's just the cold, hard facts.
DooleysOrangePants writes:
actually the VOLS are 7th in the sec which is middle of the pack. its a 14 team league now. so considering the way last year and the offseason went dooley did a GREAT job holding it together. and btw if you count tino thomas(grey shirted last year) the VOLS would be ahead of lsu and maybe a&m putting them 5th in the sec. but dont let facts get in your way.
PureOrange writes:

81volguy writes:
If it's true that Bray said that, what I hear is a young man disappointed and rationalizing his disappointment. That's something you say after a bad loss, and you're angry. It doesn't mean he didn't care, it just means he was mad and was making a "sour grapes" comment.
