What I see happening is this. Many players in high school that are fast never really learn proper technique. They rely soley on atheltic ability. How else does a guy who runs a 5.2 (Nick Reveiz) lead a team in tackles? He was where he was supposed to be. I think a little less attention to 40 times and alot more to the aptitude a guy has for the game will make the difference. When everyone is fast the guy who is unsure gets caught scratching his head while the guy who knows where he is going blows by him..... It has been said that you can't coach speed hmm... maybe there is some creedance to that. Defense has to be instinctual.
I will personally buy the Greyhound ticket to send Sal back to Bama.
lets hope after this weeks board meeting that cheek goes with him and athelete management comes back to the atheletic department then we can get us a big name coach
I've got some advice for the defensive coaches. On third and fifteen, do not have your corners playing one yard off of the receivers. Its ok to give up six or seven yards in exchange for the ball!
Or highly sarcastic, repeating our excellent coach's comments.
NO...the MORON...that was pretty much RIGHT-ON.
It doesn't take as much intelligence to make SARCASTIC remarks as it does MORONIC remarks. ( Dr. Felix Resbeck, President, New York Life Sciences). However, I will stick to MORONIC in reference to your post.
In obvious news, the defense is pretty bad. Now, who gets the blame. In spite of the DB's being out of position, getting beat frequently in 1 on 1 matchups and the DL seldom putting pressure on the QB, no one would have guessed at the beginning of the season we'd be this bad with all the players coming back and new DL starters. The coaching and system has to take the fall. The draw play Troy used effectively was all on the scheme. Six blockers against 4 DL and on linebacker was too easy. Time to get someone that has had success coaching defense at this level or higher. This is no place for coaches to learn on the job.
The barn has burned down, but Dooley has decided to try to salvage the door, so he can close it. One doesn't know what, or if, Jimmy Cheek is thinking about the Vol football team with such a defense. What he should be thinking is: "That dog won't hunt."
One begins to wonder if that may be true of the entire leadership of the University of Tennessee.

Would it help for UT Alumni, business leaders, state officials, and representatives of ordinary fans to form a committee to look closely at the questionable practices and decisions of the current leadership that has the athletic dept in turmoil..
Whatever you think about Adams, this article hits the nail squarely on the head and highlights just how poorly coached this team has been defensively this season. The performance against Troy should trigger an automatic firing of Sal Sunseri. The fact he is still here, and the fact that Dooley appears to be put out with him, signifies that Hart is probably the one who pushed the Sunseri hire and that he (Hart) is getting just what he wants out of this football team: irrelevancy. As governor of Tennessee, Bill Haslam needs to start putting real pressure on the Board of Regents, or whoever is responsible for employing Jimmy Cheek and Dave Hart, and get them out of UT. We need people at Tennessee who care about all phases of Tennessee, including athletics.
haha!!! I'm pretty sure Gov. Haslam has bigger issues to deal with than UT football. As for Hart purposely driving UT to "irrelevancy" that would imply some conspiracy with Alabama and/or it's boosters. They break rules down there but that might be a stretch:-) Can we please post responsibly? I do agree with an immediate change in DC though. you're spot on there.
The biggest change our defense has can be solved with recruiting some mean arse studs who can play the game mad and dirty,, We need some 5 star studs out there on D line and secondary and give me a LB who wants to hurt somebody on purpose!

So you are agreeing that we can still have a "great" season as Dooley said? Not sure I am clear on that!
Playing hard is one thing. But, saying you want someone to be dirty and hurt people is getting right back to the thug mentality that contributed to getting the program where it is today. It's like an Alfred McCullough mentality. He was a thug. You need to watch an attitude like yours. How would you like it if opposing teams purposely tried to hurt your players? There's a difference in hard play and dirty play, man.
You missed it, he was referring to the Al Wilsons, Reynoch Thomsons, Eric Westmorelands, Jarod Mayos and Doug Atkins of past

He coached linebackers at Bama for Saban for several years. Must have worked out, what with the National Championship and all that.

Call Justin Wilcox and make him head coach. He probably left because he knew how inept Dooley was.
