Strong eventually will regret this decision. He will come to realize that Louisville is a basketball school and he will always be second fiddle to the basketball coach.

The university got caught up in the moment and offered him a sum that they will come to realize is far too much that they want to pay and will start to resent it. Would you have believed that a coach at a school like Louisville would be paid almost 4 million a year (and not be the basketball coach)?

The best options out there right now are some that really haven't even been mentioned. Again, I like Chavis. But we could use a coach like Shaw or Patterson. Both know how to recruit and they're both really good coaches. I would want them over any of the coaches that are being mentioned right now. Looks like were gonna get Dooley 2.0. I really hope I'm wrong cause it's like a twilight zone watching this happen to UT football.

We as a fanbase need to take a step back and breathe. Yes, right now our search does indeed look like a dumpster fire, but it doesn't have to end this way. Consider some history. In 2007, a certain program away south fired their struggling coach with a great last name. They began a coaching search that included getting rebuffed by Jim Grobe (of Wake Forest). However, on January 1st a fellow by the name of Nick Saban came along, and that seemed to turn out pretty well. Let's move to more recent history. Arkansas let Petrino go and began a coaching search in April (the tenure of John L. Smith was certainly not a real thing). They threw offers at Gary Patterson of TCU, Mike Gundy of OSU, Les Miles of LSU, Charlie Strong and probably several area football coaches. Instead, they pull Bret Bielema from Wisconsin. This is the same coach who has taken the Badgers to 3 Rose Bowls (mind you, this years comes with a huge asterisk) and has a career record of 68-24. Not too shabby. So, I believe we can just stop for a moment, let AD Hart take a look at the landscape and take his time. We know what happened last time our AD got paniced and made a hire at the last minute.

He will realize it is a basketball school, but he won't regret it. He will get to practice his profession at a fine school, make millions of $ and be loyal. What's to regret about that???

Another name to throw out their besides the ones that have been mentioned a thousand times is the guy from Michigan State Mark Dantonio, MSUs' Defense is ranked 4th in the NCAA right now, the guy has went 11-1 and 10-2 there and have to give him credit MSU is not a easy place to win at, just a thought. I am disappointed as I thought he would be a good fit for UT. But so many are criticizing him for his commitment while at the same time we blast Kiffin for his lack of commitment and integrity.

No reason to be critical of Strong.. just part of the coaching profession to use offers from others to improve your own situation..but it appears UT has to offer in order to impress the fans they have done all they can before they have to settle on ......

volinky writes:

Well here are my thoughts after the most frustrating day in all my years as a UT fan:

1. Change AD's. Hart, though I am sure was thought to be a good pick, was hired to make one hire! He has known about it the very day he took the job. We all knew Dooley was not going to be here long-term, even though we hoped otherwise. David Blackburn could have just as easily led us to where we are while developing as a first rate AD. Simply put, Hart has failed at the one thing he was hired to do.

2. We need a "temporary" coach who can bring with him someone like to be the coach-in-waiting. We cannot make a "desperate" hire now, and I think the guy at UNC would be that. Crazily, Fulmer actually makes sense at this point - he is the ONLY qualified who actually wants the job! Perhaps Chavis...

3. Get Tee Martin on the staff! Keeping Jay Graham and bringing Tee back would at least keep the UT-family connected going forward.

4. I don't know what a good chancelor is like, but the one we have certainly is not making a good impression on the interview circuit. Either leave him at home or replace him...

Loyalty? Guess the 2.3 million a year plus buyout doesn't buy loyalty anymore huh Charlie? I don't really blame you for taking the 4.1 plus buyout. But be honest, you get to play in a weak conference so making the BCS is easier and you get to be one of the highest paid coaches in the country. You are not loyal you are a mercenary.

I think Strong is a good coach and would have done well at UT. Now he is doing well because of UT. So let's move on to other pastures. David Shaw, Fedora, Mark Hudspeth, Patterson should all be on the list.

Unfortunately for fans like you, 1. Are bitter your program was rejected once again. and 2. You really don't know Charlie Strong's history. Even as a D cordinator with Florida there were many times he was offered a head coaching job. But similar to the situation he is in with Louisville he didn't leave right away because he felt a sense of loyalty toward Meyer and before that with Zook. It wasnt until after the 2008 title win that Meyer himself pushed Strong to say "go! This is your chance to take a head coaching job". This has always been the way Charlie Strong is and will continue to be. He did not go out searching for another job, UT came to him. He listened and said no. Did that cause Louisville to offer him a raise? Sure! But it's not like Strong went pretending to search for other jobs just to get a raise. But I understand being rejected again can make one bitter towards another.

It is difficult to accept how low our football program has fallen until you discover that Oklahoma State and LOUISVILLE are preferred destinations over Tennessee. Alabama did it right. However, due to cheeks and harts complete incompetence that is exactly what is happening. Big booster's need to come in and take over the search just the same way they did when bama ended up hiring saban.
