Terrible team... Terrible overated coach. Can coach a very small part of the game...defense... But he can't figure out how to win games. This team is pathetic and they are going nowhere. And we are stuck with this coach and no taste of the NCAAs for another two years. Yeah Stuck. Just plain stuck.

uhhh...."defense" is not a small part of the game. and this "defense" just gave up 92 easy points.

I was at the game. Totally agree with you on the free throw situation. First half we have 3 of 4 & Stokes was the shooter. Ten minutes to go in the 2nd half we had the same thing with Ole Miss piling up the points on free throws. Some of our players got into foul trouble on calls that were ridiculous so they had to let up a bit in their style of play & Ole Miss continued shooting (and making) free throws. Their high point guy was taunting throughout the game, pointing up in the stands & really showing himself. A Coach with some class would have put him on the bench.

When you walk the walk you get to talk the talk.I didn't like it either but the team did nothing to shut them up.

We will be stuck with this guy thru next season though....then I guess we can lose the last Mike Hamilton hire. pathetic....just plain pathetic. And hey I'm being positive.

Well it has been the only part of the game he can coach...he has flat out ruined Stokes...that guy has no NBA future now... But my big problem is he can't get his team up to win an important game...games that he can and must win...he comes out and says in the paper today that there wasn't any pressure on the team to win this game...sounds a lot like our last football coach... They are a soft non aggressive team....GET TOUGH CUONZO!!!!!

August 23, 2014. This is the date Bruce Pearl's show cause ends. This season will year two off Bruce's probation. Bruce Pearl will be needing his pool man again the summer of 2014 when he hits the recruiting trail for the Tennessee and fires up the fanbase again

What's with all the sky is falling talk? We've played one SEC game! The basketball season is much longer than football, and there is more time to turn around a season. One game can make or break a football season. Not the same in college bball. Poor defense, missed free throws, these are all correctable mistakes. Cuonzo's leadership last season led to runner up in the SEC when no one picked the Vols to come anywhere near that. I've got faith in our guys to turn the defense around. That's our mojo. CCM teams play solid defense and rebound the ball; they may not be as flashy as Pearl's teams were, but after last season, and so far up until this game, it seems they are better disciplined, particularly in defense and rebounding. Give it time folks! The Vols will get it turned around. It's a long season.

(I sure would).....and I'd make Cuonzo the AD in charge of keeping Bruce toeing the line.

You know, promote CCM out of the way.

MR_VOL writes:

Vol Nation do not worry, Martin will be gone soon! Recently on the Enrichment Sports Source program Jimmy Hyams was asked which UT coach would be the first to leave---he immediately said Martin, not due to firing but to take a bigger and better coaching job. This statement shows exactly how much Jimmy knows about sports!

I would suggest that Martin seek advice from Holly about coaching offense and intensity, neither of which he has a clue.

I have said this before and I am saying it again, sometimes it is better to get 50% of the credit than 100% of the blame..........Martin get some help from an offensive minded coach, do not let your ego cause your demise and further humiliation to the University of Tennessee! You know absolutely zero about offense---bring in help!!

I would say Stokes regrets his coming to UT more and more each day.

I, too, am in full support of BBB [Bring Back Bruce]!!!!!!!!!

almost half of ole miss's points came from the foul line.especially if they arent missing, we gotta figure out our defense. We need to stick with man defense. and settling for terrible 3 point shots instead of driving to the rim? ole miss put the full court pressure on us and we only handled it properly a few times. McBee is ice cold and terrible, keep him out of the lineup.he has gotten worse every season it seems like. Reese needs to start. Also Kenny Hall has been disappointing. You would think he would step up and be a leader? Someone needs to take charge of this squad. Sorry for the all over the place rant! gbo

Bruce Pearl WILL be back in college coaching before long and when he is, you can bet he will be handing out a lot of butt whippings on the other teams. I just hope he doesn't come back to the SEC, unless it is with UT again.

Jerry Green won a lot of games (20+ every year), and took the Vols to the NCAA tourney each year he was here.
He recruited Ron Slay, Marcus Haislip, and Vincent Yarbrough.
He took Tennessee to their first Sweet 16.
He wasn't a fan-friendly coach, but he did well in his job.

And the recruits he’s bringing in don’t look very promising. Giving up 85 and then 92 points in back to back home games when your calling card is playing tough, physical D… Embarrassing.

Couldn't agree more. Intensely dislike Zo's coaching. Boring! Vols not worth watching. Lot of empty seats at T Boling last night... And, a word to McBee shave that fuzz off your face and try to make a new start!!

So much for that shutdown defense.I think it was pretty clear Ole Miss knew they had the Refs in their pocket and used it to their advantage..Not one to complain about refs but no way a team should shot 44 free throws and be in the double bonus with only 7 minutes gone in the 2nd half..Frankly it's unheard of!!! It got so bad the players were afraid to defend and had to resort to a zone defense..Pretty much accepted this is a NIT team unless Golden gets his game back.Second game he missed 12 foot pull ups that used to be automatic..

Seems you have to have a winning or at least an even win loss record to go to the NIT. After this performance does anyone really think we will be there at the end of this season?

And if by some miracle we are in that distinguished NIT, think we'll get past the likes of mtsu or austin pisser on our home court?

Dooley was pulled up from obscurity as was Martin. Most had never heard of either one, and our then 'extraordinary' AD tried to pull something from nothing and missed on both hires.

Maybe lessons can be learned. Unfortunately, we must endure the remaining time under this one and then 'hope' the next coach is a winner who can immediately bring in some quality players and turn it around, ya know, like what we are 'hoping' for on the football side now.

Vols,

It's hard not to agree with a lot of our comments we're seeing about this game. Several things:

They apparently aren't as tough a defensive team as we thought. Without Maymon, they're lost it sure seems. Shooting? This team is so in love with the 3 point shot.......it's as if they are ordered not to shoot anything inside the arch. Very few can get close to the basket without turning it over. Mcbrick?
This fellow just throws up 3's until eventually one may go in. He is incapable of driving to the rim. Usually, the offense resembles the football team defense. In this game it was both offense and defense that never showed up.

It got so bad, I had to find another game to look at..........from time to time. Guess what? Don't know if any of you saw it but check out Iowa State and Kansas. They probably called the Iowa State coach into their office to discuss the ending to the game. Another classic example of a coach allowing the opponent to beat you with a 3 instead of fouling. Iowa St played their hearts out, led the majority of the game, was up 3 with 8 seconds left. Kansas had to get the ball in......get down court, and hope to hit a 3 to send it into O T. Oh no, there was no foul, and the Jayhawks banked a bomb in off the glass with 1 second left. It went to O T and Iowa St was blown away. Seems no one wants to put the pressure on the team trailing.....by fouling them anymore.

That was bad, the Vols worse. Yes, that smart a** kid for Ole Miss will find games where it's not so funny.........in the future.
