What we saw last night and again tonight was two teams that did not want to be in the NIT.
Got to blame that on COACHING. KY thought all they had to do was show up and TENN spent the week crying about the NCAA.Got to give a big hats off to those school coaches and players they were ready to play and win.

Apparently not, but when have you seen the defense with their hands out deflecting passes or intercepting them?? They just stand like statues and allow opponents to make passes deep in the paint..Pitiful..

UT showed up? One couldn't tell by watching the game.

This performance was inexcusable. Hardly a surprise, however, after Counzo announced yesterday that he would have trouble getting his team up to play. It looked like his team was making spring break plans rather than getting ready to play Mercer.

Funny thing - Mercer looked like they watched film and prepared to play this game. UT looked like they blew off any preparation time.

Seriously... This is not going to get better. This was the year to make hay not excuses. We have now finished the last to seasons with losses to MTSU and Mercer. Com'on Hart... Is that what we want? Why don't you send a message big boy? That we play for real up here... Send this guy back to what ever simple minded, soft-sided, pasifier sucking place he came from and bring Bruce back.

I have seen better coaching by high school coaches, better ball playing by jr. high players and there is no excuse for it. FIRE Martin and bring back Bruce. With the cheating the NCAA is allowing (Like St. Mary's) and the NCAA allowing them to play in the big dance, why doesn't Hart bring Bruce back. At least more people would show up for a game. How does the NCAA say that TN is one of the top ten money makers with a season like this. WHO is spending he money? CHEEK, HART, MARTIN?

I probably should have known better than to watch this one after some of the very recent comments from players and staff about still being down about not going dancing this year, but I was fooled into thinking they would show up. But alas....

Were I coaching this team, I could not do better, I know. However, I would certainly fix one problem. I would jerk anyone who shot a three without the ball going into the paint first. I would not care if it went in or not. It would not take long before that lesson would be learned.

Bruce Pearl will have a team in the NCAA's before Martin will. He will get a decent mid major job after next season and he can coach a little bit and actually motivate. This is the most boring brand of basketball imaginable. Martin claims to be focused on defense but UT is last in the SEC in steals, and in the middle of every other defensive category.

SUNDAY WAS EMOTIONALLY DRAINING? ARE YOU KIDDING ME CUONZO?!?!? ARE WE TALKING MEN OR LITTLE GIRLS!!!! You got OUTCOACHED, outplayed, outclassed, outprided, out everythinged. and guess what! The SEC will be better next year...what will be your excuse then! This is stupid. Why don't you stupid media guys stand up and tell it like it is... Instead of being to afraid to call CUONZO out? This is the second year of this... And when is it ever going to gt better? Never... Not with this coaching staff.

The media is not going to say anything about Martin because they like the make up of the team. One nobody and one walk on. Bones never lies.

Nice job!! That was just horrible to watch. So, Martin, do you really think you deserved to be in the big tournament? You had a chance to prove the selection committee wrong, but just looked horrible.
Can you show some fire? Martin just looks lost and always so thirsty.
Just out played and out coached. Poor free throw shooting again. Golden shot better when we were down 10, but we lost in every category.
Just looked terrible.

The players were just about as interested as the fans. There was a lot of disappointment running through the team and fans by getting so close to NCAA. The fans showed their interest by less than 5k and players had about the same emotion. Played a team excited to be here and we simply were not. Not making excuses, just is what it is. When you are a bubble team that is that close to making it in, this tournament is pointless. Nothing good can come out of it. Nobody remembers winning the thing and most don't care, everybody will remember when a loss occurs though. Tis tournament is built for teams like mercer who didn't get their automatic bid and they can have a second season. At least they saved us the misery of traveling across the country to play a byu team who rarely loses at home.

Anyone who is not excited about playing any game, should not have a scholarship to play the sport. If you are a competitor, you give it everything you have every time the gun sounds, the ball goes up, the ball is kicked, etc., no matter what is at stake or if nothing is at stake EXCEPT the outcome of that game. That I ALL any player should need to know - that there is a game in which he is to compete - in order to do his best to win. If I have a player who does not feel that way, I will dump him/her so fast he/she would need water wings.

If Noel comes back Kentucky will be a good team. UT needs a coach but I can't see them spending the money. The SEC lost too much talent to the NBA the last two years especially from Kentucky and Vandy. Hopefully the conf keeps Caldwell-Pope and Noel along with Stokes. This year was just a down year. You know, if this was the level of enthusiasm you had for being here, you might well have just turned down the bid altogether. I really thought we reached the low water marks last year against APU and MTSU, but I think this might have been even worse. A horrible offensive performnce only to be outdone by an even worse defensive performance. Mercer outplayed the Vols in their own house from beginning to end! Well......this team has a long time to think about this game and the way they ended their season. I doubt this was "the statement" they intended, but it certainly was a statement.

Dave Hart should be sitting in the middle of Martin's desk when he enters the office in the morning and very candidly let him know that performances such as this from both the players and coaching staff are not acceptable. As I stated in another posting in an article earlier in the week, Martin's whining about a snub by the NCAA created a "could care less" attitude among the team. Well, the NCAA was right and Martin and team were pathetic again. Summit would have this team running wind sprints right now until they dropped. The Vols performance in the last two NIT's are just as bad as Dooley losing to Kentucky one year and Vandy the next. It could be that a lot of people are correct in their assessment that Martin is not the guy for the job but neither is Pearl.

If we were doing it on a Kentucky site, yes we would look foolish. The name of this site is Go Vols Xtra with emphasis on the "GO VOLS!" What that means is, when Kentucky loses to a team like Robert Morris, we (Vol fans) come on here and have a few laughs together. That event is totally unrelated to the disappointing performance by OUR basketball team tonight.

The man said he was sorry and that he was wrong. He never dodges the issue and uses it to teach kids right from wrong when he can. Why do we demand forgiveness, but deny others? Read Matthew 18:17-18 sometime. It may help you see that Bruce should be forgiven.

No reason to "strap it on." Nothing at stake, just a final meaningless game. These guys earned their on-floor creds against the SEC. Mercer meant nothing. Wish the Orange clad guys well, thank them, and let 'em head for the beach. Maybe Mercer will send "Thank You" cards, they made Mercer's day.

That no one in Vol-land was excited for this is well-known.

That doesn't make a poor ending any less ugly.

The NIT is all about who is excited to be there. Most teams have decent talent, and the talent gap is not sufficient to overcome lack of effort.

Mercer did not play particularly hard tonight, they played smart and did their jobs. Congrats to them.

UT played as you'd expect from them. CCM tried to run some subs out for added energy, but it did not work.
