I really hope the media has just totally overlooked us. Victory will be sweet.

actually, it's the other way around 55Vol. An SEC championship every 4-5 years per the stated program goal that Hamilton laid out a few years ago woould more than suffice. 10 years and counting...

okay, dammit, don't put any pictures from last year's bama game up there. Phil's WORST game as head coach, I think.

I'm not a phil-basher, but tell you what: he wimped out on those 2 fourth and shorts early on, and did 2 things:
-gave a hot bama offense the ball, netting only maybe 20 yards off of punts.
-told his offense 'you suck', even though Ainge and company were moving the ball

Phil, it's a man's game, play it like a man every game. your getting up there in years, maybe you need to coach each game like it's your last one (ref, JoePa).

I will continue to be a weekly critic of the game. And wish we could've, should've, would've... but I under stand that this year of all years we are rebuilding. New OC, New Offense, New QB... We had better have a damn good O Line. And our defense needs to be tough up front. I hope these guys beat the snot out of each other over the next couple of weeks, or it will be a long season. Right now I am concerned for the opener and GA. FLA is one dimesional now that we know tbone is nothing more than a tackling dummy...as shown by many teams after our loss to them.

Well back to work...

Go Vols!

Funny how a guy named Al Wilson that settled for nothing less than Championships wants to know what will make me happy.

How about an SEC title for the first time since you left school?

volfan54 writes:

some of you guys missed the interview with Johnny Long last week. McNeil is 290 and is one of 5 guys on the team benching over 500lbs. not bad for a linebacker :). 3 of the others were OLine. the 5th was Bolden.

Foster ran east/west last year because his line was coached to protect Ainge for half a nano-second. Run blocking was not their forte. Blame Chuck & Duck Cutcliffe, not Foster. I guessing Clawson will not forfeit the running game.
Very nice harmony on here too, BTW.

gnm,

Good point. I do think the line needs to get that push on 3rd and short. I also think the coaches need to give the line confidence by calling running plays in those situations and showing they know the line can make that push. Last year has too many 3rd and short passing plays. The D was looking for it. Those situations call for heart and "want to" as much as anything else. I know our boys can do it, it is just time to prove it.

WorkinLikeHeck writes:

Yeah, McNeil is 290 until he loses all of it during two a days and for the 3rd year in a row we get to hear about how he played at 260 at the end of the year while getting manhandled vs. teams like Florida and LSU.

One more for you guys save this site in your favorites. They have been pumping out the articles.

Ummmm....a 4.6 40? LOL!!!!!

I'll bet anyone any amount of money that he can't run a sub 4.8, hell a sub 4.9 at the NFL combine in February. He doesn't run anywhere close to that. I'm glad it took Bolden four years to finally "get it".

If Foster wants to play in the league, he needs to think North/South and leave the dippin' & dartin' to the scatbacks.

IBleedOrange444 writes:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't McNeil suffer a leg injury that caused him to lose weight towards the end of last year and over the off-season? Isn't he bigger and stronger coming into this season than he ever has been before?

Does this look like a guy we should've passed on?

http://tennessee.rivals.com/viewprosp...

Do you think we should start Sullins, the walk on, over McNeil even though the coaches are, just this off-season, starting to think that Sullins is ready to see some game action just because he's got a few pounds on him?

Are you guys completely Dupree or just looking for something to b_tch about as usual?

We need to get better in the run game, but we have one of the best "O" lines in the country. I loved Coach Cut, but he did have a tendency to abandon the run. I think that, more than anything else, is why we struggled to run the ball at times last year. You have to be dedicated to running the football.

orangebloodgmc writes:

Sounds like we got some pretty strong offensive linemen, receivers who will block, the return of the fullback, and even a quarterback who could now make the lbs hesitate and think twice about who has the ball on the running play, possibly a qb keeper.

Jamey1210 writes:

Well Said Ibleedorange,
Cut was a great OC but had a second rate defense and new he had to put some points on the board or we had no chance. I think that our o-line would have shined both run and pass if we had the defense we will have this year. This O-line will go down as one of the Best all time for Tennessee, count it.

TommyJack writes:

Jamey1210: What???

Jamey1210 writes:

Mark it down and call me out if I am wrong. I am not one that is going to change my screen name or hide from the site. D-back and O-line not the top but one of the best all time.

Antone Davis and Charles McCrae, both were drafted in the first round and were busts in the NFL. They were drafted back to back, McCrae went 7th to Tampa Bay and Davis went 8th to Philadelphia. They opened a lot of holes for Cobb/Webb, but never started in the NFL.

I keep hearing about Clausen's new Flipping O-Line. I would really like to see the KNS write an article about the advantages of this Flipping O-Line. I am also interested if any other other teams especially in the SEC use this approach and how successful was their offense as a result. Specifically have they been succesful running the Flipping O-line or was the approach too complicated for the players to learn.

VolFanInAtl writes:

I'd like to see KNS keep there flaps shut about the Flipping O-Line until at least Sept. 1st.

I don't believe in gimmicks, so I doubt that there could be a huge element of surprise anyway, but... on the other hand I see no reason to publish the play book in the paper either.

florida was without trautwein for last season. in the tennessee game, pouncey was injured in the 1st qtr. so, florida played that game w/o 2 starters on the o-line.

the florida o-line is deep and good.

tartt, harvin, cunningham and a couple of others were held out for precautionary reasons. also, tartt did not miss a game in 2007 and i am not aware that he has ever had an injury that kept him from playing.

HARVIN'S LIMP

Receiver Percy Harvin, a preseason Heisman Trophy candidate, dressed Tuesday but did not practice. Harvin is recovering from offseason surgery to his right heel. He watched practice and walked with a slight limp.

Coach Urban Meyer chose to rest Harvin.

''My biggest concern -- and the trainer shares that maybe not as much as I do -- I have just seen guys when one part of the body is hurt, we just have to be real smart,'' Meyer said. ``He was a little sore [Tuesday]. Just being cautious.''
