That's why there was a dash in "three-quarters", as in three-fourths of the game, i.e., the first 30 minutes of the game. Otherwise, he would have written, "the first three quarters"--THAT would have been wrong in college BB. Funny how that silly stuff from English class keeps popping up in real life(;-P)!
