A lot of truth in what you say. One thing we all need to remember is while we down play our own team's ability and performances, we often forget to acknowledge that the teams we played were pretty good too and had pitchers that over powered us.
Could be Tennessee was a bit overwhelmed by the task at hand. We weren't the only team which utilized the slap hitting method. However we did not possess the portly looking power hitters which some teams do have. On occasion, some of Tennessee's smallish hitters could take one out of the yard, but just occasionally. The speed factor is what they counted on this season. And once again, we are seeing pitchers who are imposing in stature in the circle. Our girls don't look to need to lose 20 or 30 pounds but instead they try to move the ball around and finesse their pitches.
The Lady Vols will learn from this and will be okay. Just a matter of finding the missing pieces and looking back at where we fell short..........and working on those things. Regardless of the outcome, I wouldn't trade our girls for anyone else's.
Most of those "portly" hitters you speak about may hit home runs, but they bat around the .150 range. Home runs do make a big impact, but the Weeklys are for speed and putting the pressure on the defense. They've had HR hitters in the past and I believe they will have them again, just not this year.
The Renfro sisters lost confidence somewhere before they arrived to the WCWS. I would have bet the house that they would not have pitched the way they did this weekend. Glad I didn't.
