I think Hart told them they would both be OK no matter what this season as long as 2013 took a big jump forward, which it probably will. I have no inside info but that's the only thing that makes sense to me. I know, a conspiracy theory but who knows? Go Vols!!!

If Dooley was so enamored with Sal and the 3-4 defense he could have went to it right away. It appears that the urgency for the switch arrived not long after Hart.
Then again, maybe I'm as guilty of conspiracy theories as those I have accused.
