For many reasons:

First off, you need to get a coach in that can get a jump start on recruiting and salvage/improve what is already there. Second off, the SRs need some closure...Playing for Doofus is no motivation for anyone. Thirdly, the prospective NFLers (Bray, Hunter, and Patterson) need a coach who can persuade them to stay so the offense doesnt take a few steps back (plus, it gives the younger ones more time to mature, develop, and receive some much needed playing time in games that are put away early).
