KnoxNewzPravda has been so busy drooling over the possibility of Dooley being fired that they practically quit covering the actual news around the football team's preparation for Vandy.
Keys to victory: 1) Leave Sal in Knoxville. With CDD focusing on defense and leaving the offense alone, both looked really good for about 30 minutes. Just do that for 60 minutes and it's all gravy.
2) RUN THE !&^%#%$! BALL. The best defense is a good offense for UT. Use the 2 back set, run the ball early and often. Set up the third and short rather than third and long. Keep our offense on the field, keep the chains moving, keep the clock rolling, and score.
3) Get CP the ball. My son has noticed a trend; if Young fields the punt, then the first play is going to CP. Wonder if opposing teams have figured this out too? Let CP field the kicks and provide opportunities for "explosives." Don't make it obvious that CP is getting the ball.
I agree!! On #2-3 We need to use CP as well as Neal,Lane, and Young back there, but we need to switch it up some, maybe run some reverses where CP gets it and some where Young and or Pig Howard gets it! Teams don't need to know CP is gonna get the ball.
Also I feel that we aren't creating oppertunities for Young to get into open field and use his speed. Simply running him up the middle throughout the game isn't working because he isn't a large tackle breaker.
He needs to get more wheel routs and pitches than Lane and Neal.
As for #1 we need to send more Blitz backages from the outside, instead of sending a slower big LB like Smith we need to send Sapp or even Brewer from the QB's blind side, and do this throughout the game until they catch on.
GO VOLS!!!
