I remember Bill Parcells said one time that he was expected to prepare a fine meal, but he wasn't allowed to shop for the groceries. So it is in the NFL. More so than in college, the coaches are very limited in choosing their personnel.
Seems ole Bill always looked like he ate very well, despite not doing the grocery shopping.
Re your point, guess it could come down to whether Gruden thinks he could win the recruiting game against miles, saban and the uf boy wonder, or still win with what is left after they pluck all the 5*s they want.
And betcha Gruden believes in the stars as one important measure (not the only) of a player's worth since he sure did mention it often when he interviewed all those college qbs for that espn piece he did last year.
