After finding the game being carried on UT Sports.Com........I started watching with the Lady Vols down by 11 in the second half. The 2 teams kept trading baskets until about 4 minutes left. Then, the L V's grabbed a 5 point lead on 2 occasions at the end of regulation. Help me on this one.......we were up by 3 with seconds left. MTSU came down the floor.......and am I the only one in the amateur world of basketball who was saying "foul them now?" Don't even let them have a 3. But, it just seemed our defense was to 'hope they didn't make the 3.' And,of course they did hit the 3 and poof.......overtime.
Watching this game after that, in o t MTSU got the lead and had the ball. The flow of the game just made me feel this was going to be a loss. Shame on me for giving it up and watching something else. Even with this being a young team, they proved they will scrap and claw and win some of these games.
If they can avoid the injury bug and gain confidence along the way, they'll do just fine.
I was stunned they let the lead slip away in the final seconds and honestly couldnt believe they let MTSU put up either one of their last 2 shots in regulation. Im not sure why Coach Warlick missed that chance to put the game away, but I have to say these girls showed more grit hanging on for the win than I did trying to watch the game. I thought this game was a loss by halftime. MTSU looked like their best test to date IMO. I hope they get better on perimeter defense. They are faster than last years team but still seemed a bit slow at times against MTSU,s guards. Burdick isnt shooting as well as Ive seen from her in the past. Still it was a great win and a good test wich may possibly help them in future close games.
