IN EFFECT UNTIL DEC 10, 11:00 a.m.
issued for Anderson
I have always thought highly of Dick and Tony Bennett as coaches. Their teams are always fundamentally sound and physically tough. Since UVA and UT are almost mirror-images of each other, I expect another grind-fest like--shudder!--the G'town game. In such a game, the team that can turn their defense into a few easy transition baskets will have a big edge.
I can readily understand why many fans don't like this kind of ball, but they need to realize that NCAA tourney play more often resembles that style than it does the run-and-gun style that appeals more to casual fans. The only time you see really high-scoring NCAA games is when BOTH teams want to run, which doesn't happen all that often. Talent being roughly equal, it is easier to slow down a running team than it is to speed up a deliberate one. I agree with BQ that this is the kind of game the Vols need to win to demonstrate to themselves most of all that they can play with the nation's elite.
