I think very highly of Doug Dickey and the job he did in his time as the UT athletic director, but he hired one football coach...Phillip Fulmer. Yeah, he didn't conduct a search like Dave Hart did, all he did after Johnny Majors was fired (which, IMO, was the right thing to do at the time) all he did was go down the hall to the offensive coordinator's office and give him his new title.

Now if you want to talk about Doug Dickey's hires for basketball...he's the guy that fired a successful, but somewhat conservative Don DeVoe and brought in Wade Houston followed by Kevin O'Neill, Jerry Green and Buzz Peterson. The fact of the matter is Dickey was 0-for when it came to hiring basketball coaches.

Butch Jones has yet to coach one game at Tennessee, but he has more wins as a head coach than Doug Dickey did when he took the job, Bill Battle did when he took the job, Phillip Fulmer did when he took the job and Kiffn and Dooley had when they took the job.

Time will tell if he's a great, good, average or bad coach in the SEC, but give the guy a chance to at least get through spring practice to see what he offenses and defenses he installs and how the players respond to him before going postal over things. I think Butch Jones is going to surprise a lot of the negative people on this site.

im with you,and yea i know pittman was cool and the line was doing its job, or was it,,they could pass block but they still werent running to well, nobody knows what this staff has to offer, nor can you go by what happened elsewhere, everybody screamed strong but strong came from the same conference he jus did ,so whos better of the two , and if you say strong please show why, they split the big east, and that made everyone scream strong, well i like my new coach, and im with him, riding or walkin,so lets jus back em or back up
