It might be a mistake not retaining Pittman. The only bright spot in the season was the offensive line.
It's obvious they were coached up.
I really like Pittman and wanted him to stay on. And by Jones not retaining him, it's nothing at all against Pittman. I think Jones respects him very much, but I think Jones is confident with the OL coach he has worked with and believes his guy will produce for Tennessee. That's my take.
