Ya'll are nuts. He's a solid coach with a winning percentage 800% better than Stooley's. With the state of our program right now, you might call it a "2nd tier coach" but that's a heck of land for a 5th tier program. Our schedule next year posts a min of 6 losses. Takes a lot of moxy to walk into that. CO & Purdue wanted him. It's a great hire and I don't think it's 2nd rate at all. Everyone's been asking who else do you want? TN gets a proven HC that can at least win twice what he loses and keeps a mid-major schoold competitive nationally. You're kidding yourselves if expected anything more, but this is not a 2nd rate hire. Good man and coach. Welcome to TN!
If you read this, dont' worry that the majority of TN fans voted no. They also all voted Kifftard & Stooley and most want Fulmer back. YOu're the right man for TN right now.
Go Vols! (well, in 2014).
Agreed! I think it's time that we face reality. We're not the level of team in the SEC (or nationally) that we used to be (duhhh). Hiring Gruden was a fantasy that many wanted to think was a real possibility. Strong is really not anymore "proven" than Butch Jones and Strong was only using UT as a negotiating tool with UL. Gundy...there was no way he was leaving OSU to come to UT...BTW, he's got absolutely no recruiting connections in the Southeast either. I think that Dave Hart inherited a very difficult situation and is handling it in the best way possible. You have to remember, Hamilton used a hiring firm to acquire Kiffin and Dooley. Neither of them were "first choices" for coaches at UT but it wasn't as publicized as these recent rejections. I've actually read that both of previous coaches were 5th or lower on the prospect list. The traditions at UT are strong and although winning games is something that we've been used to, there are other traditions that are just as important! These will live on whether we ever win another game. Winning is important as well and I believe that this is a step in the right direction...he's done it in the Big East! Let's go Coach Jones!! GO BIG ORANGE!!!
