Main guy? Leak thinks so
"I'm back in the flow of being the main guy,'' Leak said following Friday's practice. "My job is to continue to step up my role as a leader.''
Leak might need to step up as a quarterback to stay No. 1 on the depth chart.
Fulmer has made it clear he's very pleased with the progress of freshmen quarterbacks Brent Schaeffer and Erik Ainge.
Schaeffer has showed great mobility and an adequate arm, while Ainge has shown the strongest arm, quickest release and best pocket presence.
Leak, however, was quick to point out he has been the most proficient.
"I've been completing most of my passes, and I haven't had any turnovers,'' he said. "I can't go out there and try to be a superstar. Those guys I throw to are on scholarship, too.''
Fulmer said Saturday's closed scrimmage could go a long way toward determining the quarterback of the future and the offense the Vols run.
"Obviously, one of the questions that will dictate what we're going to look like this year is quarterback,'' Fulmer said. "(Saturday) is really important for those guys and a number of other people.''
