Leak not complaining

Tennessee senior quarterback C.J. Leak wasn't complaining about his lack of repetitions on the field Saturday.

"The young guys needed the work,'' said Leak, who was 1-for-4 passing for 33 yards in the eight plays he participated in. "The coaches came to me before the scrimmage and explained what they were doing.''

Leak might have benefited from not playing; the offensive support group was hardly impressive.

The dropped passes, fumbles and missed blocks would have likely made any quarterback look bad.

Leak said he could just imagine what the freshmen were thinking.

"We all go through it,'' he said. "Your first scrimmage, everything just comes flying at you.''

Leak had defensive end Parys Haralson flying at him on the second play of the scrimmage.

Haralson hit Leak -- and it could have been much worse had he lowered his helmet.

"I didn't see him until the last second,'' Leak said. "I just saw the white of his helmet. I'm glad he let up on me.''

Fulmer gave Leak a vote of confidence after the scrimmage.

"C.J., by far, is the guy that's done the best and most consistent job,'' he said. "The two young ones are talented and we have to be sure we get them ready.''
