Griffith: Leak stays steady

Senior quarterback C.J. Leak kept his steady approach to trying to hold the No. 1 spot on the depth chart.

Leak, a steady though unspectacular 9-of-16 passing for 59 yards, said he’s not losing any confidence after Wednesday night’s scrimmage.

"I’m preparing as if it’s my job and working hard,’’ Leak said. "I feel I did pretty good.’’

Leak was the first of the quarterbacks to take the field, and converted a 7-yard pass to Tony Brown to get a first down on his first series. The drive stopped three plays later, however, when Parys Haralson dropped Leak for a loss.
On the next set of downs, Leak scrambled for 9 yards – stiff-arming cornerback Roshaun Fellows, to convert on third down. But again, Leak’s drive stalled, this time on an overthrown pass to Bill Grimes.

"That was my first scrimmage,’’ Leak said. "I can make a lot of improvement. As I get more repetitions, the offense will come together and it will all gel.’’

Leak said he considers himself a "mobile pocket passer,’’ and aims to prove it in Saturday’s scrimmage.
