Report card for UT scrimmage
Some fine tuning to be done, but both true freshmen quarterbacks looked sharp in the inclement weather. Rick Clausen had one of his tougher outings, while Bo Hardgree struggled with an inadequate supporting cast of backups around him.
Running backs (C+)
Cedric Houston has improved, but is not yet fully on-track. Another strong outing from Gerald Riggs. Freshman Arian Foster stole the show with darting runs. Disappointing fumbles by Jabari Davis and David Yancey. Corey Larkins struggled to find daylight on his runs. Cory Anderson looked solid at fullback.
Offensive line (B-)
Not bad considering the number of players out with injuries. Protection has improved, but not yet where it needs to be. Impressive run blocking in the goal line drills. Cody Douglas' return was a lift, and Jason Respert appears to be hitting his stride.
Receivers (C)
Nice day for Derrick Tinsley, Tony Brown and Bret Smith. Another pair of drops from Jayson Swain, and Larkins dropped a sure-fire TD throw from Ainge.
Defensive line (B)
Starters looked strong in limited playing time. Backups didn't answer the challenge a number of times, and defensive line was pushed pack in goal line situations more times than not.
Linebackers (A-)
Kevin Burnett appears to be in game condition. Burnett was active throughout his playing time. Jon Poe stepped up in Kevin Simon's absence and played well. Daniel Brooks was another strong performer, and freshmen J.T. Turner and Ryan Karl showed up.
Secondary (B)
Plenty of work to be done, but did a nice job getting their hands on the ball. Jonathan Hefney is showing he can be a shut-down cover man. Roshaun Fellows breaks well on the ball. Corey Campbell came up against the run well. Cornerbacks are ahead of the safeties.
