The 6-foot-5, 294-pound defensive tackle from Tyner Academy in Chattanooga said he posted the same score on his latest college entrance exam as his earlier efforts. Those attempts were short of qualifying.
Bolden said it is likely that he will attend Hargrave Military Academy this fall until he can post the necessary score.
"It's a disappointment," Bolden said. "Everybody wants me to get up there this fall, but I can't make everybody happy. I'll be there by next semester."
"I was close. It's really depressing for me because I wanted to be there this fall. (UT coaches) say they won't forget about me."
Bolden said his only chance is qualifying for an extra-time testing session soon. Bolden said the necessary paperwork has been filed and he is waiting for a response. Even if his request is approved, time is not on his side.
"To get them (the test scores) back that quick would be a long shot," Bolden said. "It takes seven weeks to get the score back. It's not going to be back in time."
The Vols report Aug. 4. Practice begins the next day. More importantly, classes begin Aug. 18.
Bolden is UT's 30th USA Today All-American signee and the 61st Parade All-American signee. He was named 2003 2-A Mr. Football in the state and chosen as the state's top prospect by the News Sentinel.
Most likely, Bolden is the only UT signee who will not qualify academically. Tailback Arian Foster from San Diego, Calif., was in some jeopardy late last month. However, family members say he has qualified and will be with the team this fall.
