Tennessee has passed North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Duke as the top college choices for defensive end/tight end prospect Ayanga Okpokowuruk from McCallie School in Chattanooga.
The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Okpokowuruk, who took an official visit to UT this weekend, said only Stanford still tops the Vols. He had the Vols fifth this summer before playing so well as a senior this season.
Okpokowuruk said a strong senior year could lead him to choose a school based more on football than academics.
"It's gone pretty well," Okpokowuruk said of his visit to Knoxville. "I like the atmosphere around here in East Tennessee. It's football country.
"Right now, if I'm going to school on a football scholarship, then football is going to be my life. Some schools have moved up and down my list. Tennessee is probably number two. Stanford is number one right now."
Besides football, Okpokowuruk's strongest draw to UT is former McCallie teammate Jason Hall, a UT defensive end.
Visiting: Demetrice Morley (safety, Miami, Fla.), Dace Richardson (offensive lineman, Wheaton, Ill.), Anthony Moeaki (tight end, Wheaton, Ill.) also took official visits to UT this weekend.
