Banks suffered a meniscus tear in his knee late last week and underwent arthroscopic surgery on Friday (today).
It was hopes the tear was only minor, and Banks would be out just three weeks. However, the surgery revealed the injury to be more serious.
The 20-year-old junior was already suspended for the first three games of the season after being charged with underage consumption of alcohol and a violation of the citys noise ordinance in July.
Banks led the Vols with 42 catches for 621 yards last season. He had six touchdowns.
