Zook won't bring Ingram

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Florida football coach Ron Zook said that true freshman quarterback Cornelius Ingram will not make the trip to Knoxville with the rest of the team today for Saturday's game against Tennessee.

"We decided to hold him back," Zook said following Thursday's two-hour practice.

With redshirt freshman quarterback Justin Midgett suspended indefinitely, Zook said sophomore walk-on Matt Kynes and senior walk-on Jeff Whitaker would serve as the third and fourth string quarterbacks behind starter Chris Leak and backup Gavin Dickey.

Ingram, a football and basketball standout at Hawthorne High, came to Florida on a football scholarship. Initially, he was expected to redshirt in football and report to the basketball team Oct. 15. But after a strong summer and Midgett's suspension, Ingram worked his way to third on the depth chart for last Saturday's opener against Eastern Michigan.

Injury Front: Zook said Florida emerged from the week's practice relatively healthy. Sophomore linebacker Brian Crum (knee surgery, torn cartilage) and senior tight end Darrell Carpenter (knee) are out. Tight end Dane Guthrie (high ankle sprain) and linebacker Todd McCullough (high ankle sprain) are probable.

Rocky Flight To Rocky Top: Zook said he has no concerns about today's flight to Knoxville. Heavy winds and rain from Hurricane Ivan are expected to hover over the area today.

The team charter is scheduled to leave from Gainesville direct to Knoxville this afternoon.

"Do you think those pilots would take off if it wasn't safe?" Zook asked, rhetorically. "We'll be all right. We'll get there."

Noise In The System: Florida piped in crowd noise during Thursday's practice to simulate a hostile crowd environment. More than 104,000 are expected to pack Neyland Stadium on Saturday night.
