Just for kicks

Tennessee’s James Wilhoit, who kicked the game-winning 50-yard field goal to beat Florida, names the top three placekickers he admires and why:

1. Jeff Hall: UT’s career scoring leader and a member of UT’s 1998 national championship team. "He always made the clutch kick."
2. Fuad Reveiz: Holds UT record with 60-yard field goal. "Coach (Phillip) Fulmer said he is probably the toughest-minded kicker he has ever seen. He was a kicker with the mindset of a linebacker."
3. Adam Vinatieri: New England Patriots veteran has kicked 16 game-winning field goals in the final minute of fourth quarter or overtime, including two in the Super Bowl. "He’s the best because he makes the kicks when he needs to."

High praise
In his six seasons at Louisiana Tech, Jack Bicknell has played Miami (3 times), Auburn (2), LSU, and Florida State. Yet, he indicated Tennessee has a better offensive line than any of those teams, including last year’s LSU national championship team.
"I think their (Tennessee’s) offensive line is probably the most impressive I’ve seen since I’ve been here," Bicknell said during this week’s Western Athletic Conference teleconference.

Murderer’s row
Bicknell on facing four teams ranked in the coaches’ top 20 on four consecutive weekends — No. 4 Miami, No. 8 Tennessee, No. 17 Fresno State and No. 10 Auburn : "I don’t know if it's the toughest four-game stretch in the history of college football, but I tell you, it’s pretty close."

Quotebook
"When we have an accident in the house, what do we do? You put their nose in it. You don't have to spank them or anything. You just put their nose in it and show them — teach them and show them where they’re supposed to go."
LSU coach Nick Saban,
telling The (Baton Rouge) Advocate how correcting his football team after losing to Auburn is like housebreaking a pet.
