Officials at the University of Tennessee said they're not in a position to disclose information.
McClure was involved in a bizarre episode at the student recreation center on June 24 that resulted in him being arrested on charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
McClure was subsequently hospitalized and diagnosed with a condition requiring medication. The former Soddy-Daisy High School standout issued a public apology and vowed to move on with his life in a positive manner.
But on Aug. 25, McClure was involved in an assault case after allegedly pushing his girlfriend up against the wall at their apartment complex. UT coach Phillip Fulmer placed McClure on non-participation status after the August incident.
McClure was on the verge of rejoining the team at the time of his suspension. Now, his future with the football team is again in limbo.
McClure said he's "praying and attending classes,'' while awaiting a decision on his future. McClure needs 12 credits to graduate with a degree in sociology.
Tennessee athletic director Mike Hamilton said McClure's situation is being watched closely.
"I've been monitoring it from the standpoint of his mental condition,'' Hamilton said. "I've been looking at the next step as far as his participation.
"I don't know where he is in the court of student conduct.''
Tim Rogers, UT's vice chancellor to student affairs the past five years, said he can't confirm McClure's off-campus issues are being reviewed by his department.
"I can't confirm there's any disciplinary case,'' Rogers said. "We do not discuss educational records and disciplinary cases are considered educational records. That's protected by FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.''
Speaking hypothetically, Rogers said "the university may hold a student accountable for misconduct that occurs off campus.''
But, Rogers added, "Every case is unique unto it's own facts.''
Rogers said he could not hypothesize whether the university would be liable should McClure have another aggressive incident involving another UT student.
McClure said he's "learned his lessons the hard way,'' and is still on medication. He confirmed information in the Aug. 25 police report that he had been drinking the night of the incident. McClure had a DUI his sophomore season at UT.
