Q&A with Chris Mosby
What schools are on your list right now?
"I really don't have any favorites as of right now. I've visited six schools: Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Mississippi State and LSU. Really, to tell you the truth, all of them were overwhelming. It seems like everybody's got new facilities these days. It's almost breathtaking when you come see all this stuff."
What has the whole recruiting process been like for you early on?
"It's been fun. It's been exciting. Sometimes it's a little bit strenuous, but that's the fun part of it. It's been a little bit overwhelming and exciting at the same time."
Have you gotten any advice on what to expect in recruiting?
"Yeah a little bit. I hear every now and then from people that have already been through it or coaches that say it's going to be hectic and I may get a little tired of it. To tell you the truth I'm looking forward to it more than anything."
Do you know David Ligon from Christian Brothers?
"Yes. He was a senior when I was in eighth grade so I missed him by one year."
Has he talked to you about UT?
"Really I haven't talked to him a whole lot about that stuff. The last time I talked to him was at Tennessee's Junior Day about a month ago. We went and watched Tennessee's practice and I talked to him for a little bit. We just talked about Tennessee and how he likes it up there. He says it's going to be hard up there. They're one of the top programs in the nation. Don't expect anything to be easy. You've got to work your tail off up there. He said it's one of the most awesome experiences you can go through."
What do you know about Tennessee and what they've done with linebackers?
"If someone ever keeps up with Tennessee you know some of their linebackers. That's always encouraging. They're always loaded and stacked in the depth chart, always getting No. 1 recruiting classes. You know they're always going to have top-notch linebackers. That's just part of the challenge. It would be a good feeling to be going there as a linebacker to know what they've done with linebackers in the past."
What coaches have you met?
"I met with coach Trooper Taylor and coach (John) Chavis. My parents and I got to talk with him for a while on Junior Day. Also coach (Phillip) Fulmer a little bit but everyone's trying to talk to him."
What impressions did you get from Trooper Taylor and John Chavis?
"A good feeling. They're only six hours away. That's not a big drive for us. Especially coach Chavis. I really like him. He's a guy you can talk with. From what I saw in practice he seems like he doesn't just yell at you and chew you out and talk you down. He lets you know what you're doing wrong. He'll have you do it 100 times until you get it right. That's hard to overlook."
What do you think of Chavis being the defensive coordinator as well as linebackers coach?
"That just seems like an advantage as a linebacker, having the main guy as your position coach. He's talking to you every day about what you're doing wrong. It seems like you'd be a little bit closer to him than other positions. That just seems like an advantage."
What else did you take away from Junior Day?
"Well I realized how big those guys are. Those are some big dudes. The last time I was up there before Junior Day was going into my freshman year. That was the first time I had seen everything. They put the 100 yards in the indoor facility which was awesome. That was really nice."
How would you compare Tennessee to all the other schools you've seen?
"Tennessee is a little bit nicer than most schools. Auburn was up there with Tennessee, and to my surprise Arkansas has a lot of new facilities. But Tennessee, they're just so good. It's hard to not keep that in the back of your head."
What did you think about Tennessee when you went to games when you were younger?
"They were always unbelievable. That many people at a football game is awesome."
Have you grown up a Tennessee fan?
"I guess really not a huge die-hard fan. But if there's a school I watched or kept up with more it'd be Tennessee."
Would being an in-state guy play a role in your decision?
"A little bit. When I was so much younger these Tennessee football players were gods to me. The thought that I could be one of them was definitely motivation. At the same time, I can't let that make my pick for me."
Have you received a scholarship offer yet?
"The only official offer in writing I have is from Arkansas."
What are you looking for in a school?
"I guess everyone likes early playing time. But really more important than that would be a school I was proud to go to and play for and that I feel the best at. I guess it really comes down to people and who I feel comfortable with."
Do you know what camps you're going to this summer?
"I know I'm going to some camps and combines as well, but we really haven't figured out which we're going to. We might consider Tennessee but there are so many right around the same time. But we will be going to some."
