Stewarts would pick Vols if both offered

Darian and Jared Stewart have played football together their whole lives. They don't want that to change.

The brothers both play wide receiver and defensive back for Lee High School in Huntsville, Ala. They both hope to play offense in college.

The two list Tennessee, Auburn and Louisville in their top three. Only Darian Stewart has received a scholarship offer from that group with Louisville offering.

He has had plenty of other college interest, including offers from Alabama, Georgia Tech, Kentucky and Marshall. Jared Stewart has offers from Georgia Tech and Kentucky.

He said UT is his favorite school because he has been a longtime follower of the Vols.

"I've been a Tennessee fan since I was five or six," the 6-foot, 195-pounder said. "When I was little it was the colors. I loved the orange and white. But I've been watching them play, especially last year with their running game and passing game."

UT has paved the way for the Alabama brothers. Jared Stewart said he has noticed wide receiver Jayson Allen, from Grissom High in Huntsville, and defensive back Jason Allen from Muscle Shoals High.

"I've known Jayson since I was a little kid," Jared Stewart said. "I saw him three or four weeks ago and he said it's a good school and I should go there.

"I've been seeing Jayson since he was a freshman at Grissom. I really like their defense with Jason Allen. I like seeing him and Jayson Swain play."

Darian Stewart said Louisville is his leader because of their scholarship offer. He said if UT were to offer him a scholarship, the Vols would be right there with the Cardinals. He said he has talked with UT defensive coordinator John Chavis, who is in charge of recruiting the brothers.

"We talked about the receivers they have coming in this year and the receivers that will be going out when I come in," the 5-11, 205-pounder said. "I think I'm a better fit (on offense) than defense. I'm physical and have good hands."

The two brothers hope to end up at the same school but said they don't feel optimistic about their chances.

"I would like to play with him," Jared Stewart said, "but we're getting different scholarship offers so I don't know if we'll end up playing together. But if we both get offered at Tennessee, we'll end up playing together.

"It would mean a lot to go to the same school because we aren't used to being away from each other. It would be a big change not being together."

Jared said it would also mean a lot to their mother if they chose the same school.

"My mama would hate (us being apart)," he said. "She wants us to go to the same school so she can go to one game.

"She's been telling me to really think about it and put God first. She said to ask him questions and he'll give me the answers."

Darian Stewart said it's a matter of proving himself on the high school field this year to earn more scholarship offers.

"I just have to do what I have to do this year," he said. "I hope to have 1,000 yards receiving and at least probably 50 catches."

Jared Stewart said he needs to work harder so he can impress college coaches.
