Sears is only Vol on All-SEC first team
Cutler, Ryans, Spurrier individual winners
Tennessee's junior offensive lineman was the only Tennessee player selected to the All-SEC first team by The Associated Press.
A disappointing 5-6 season didn't add up to a plethora of SEC recognition for the Vols.
Sears may have helped his cause with his versatility.
The 6-foot-4, 338-pound native of Russellville, Ala. played every position in the Vols' offensive line except center.
He made nine starts at left tackle, one at right guard and one at left guard.
The Vols had four second-team selections, not surprisingly, all defensive players.
Three-fourths of the UT defensive line was recognized.
Defensive ends Parys Haralson and Jason Hall, defensive tackle Justin Harrell made the second-team cut. Jesse Mahelona, a preseason Playboy All-America, was honorable mention.
Linebacker Kevin Simon, UT's leading tackler, was the other Vols' second-team honoree.
Haralson and Hall were the only defensive end teammates to earn the All-SEC honor.
Haralson finished with 45 tackles and was third in the league in sacks (8.5) and tackles for a loss (16.5).
Hall, a senior from Chattanooga, was just as efficient. He was the Vols' fourth-leading tackler with 51 and had seven sacks and 13 tackles for a loss.
Harrell, a junior, finished with 39 tackles, 7.5 tackles for a loss and two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown against Kentucky.
DeMeco Ryans of Alabama, Patrick Willis of Ole Miss and Moses Osemwegie of Vanderbilt edged out UT's Simon for first-team linebacker.
Simon finished sixth in the SEC with 88 tackles.
Ryans was named Defensive Player of the Year and Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler Offensive Player of the Year.
Coach of the Year honors went to Steve Spurrier of South Carolina after leading the Gamecocks to a second-place finish in the SEC East with a 7-4 record.
Arkansas running back Darren McFadden was named SEC Freshman of the Year after rushing for 1,113 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The SEC will release the coaches' selections today.
