UT's Fosters rate SEC All-Freshman
For three more seasons to come, that's the way Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer hopes it works.
The Foster-Foster combo became the only Vols named to SEC coaches All-Freshman team released Thursday.
Arian Foster grabbed his share of the limelight when he filled in for injured tailback Gerald Riggs Jr., and finished the season with 879 yards, the fifth-best total in UT freshman history.
The 6-foot-1, 211-pound back from San Diego didn't get his first start until Oct. 29, but he proceeded to top 100 yards rushing in each of UT's final five games.
In those five starts, Foster averaged 148 yards and 29 carries to finish sixth among SEC rushing leaders.
Foster's health is the concern now. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last week and is contemplating shoulder surgery in January.
Ramon Foster, a 6-6, 340-pound redshirt freshman, earned his reputation as a player to watch last spring.
He won UT's Harvey Robinson Award for most-improved offensive performer during spring drills. It then carried over into the fall.
He played in seven games, including a start at left guard in the season opener against UAB and a start at right tackle in the season finale at Kentucky.
Arkansas led all teams with five selections, including Freshman of the Year running back Darren McFadden.
Alabama and Mississippi State had four each. Kentucky and Vanderbilt had three apiece. Georgia and LSU, the two teams who met in the SEC title game, had one apiece.
Six players were unanimous selections: McFadden, South Carolina wide receiver Sidney Rice, Vanderbilt receiver Earl Bennett, Arkansas linebacker Freddie Fairchild, Kentucky linebacker Braxton Kelley and Vanderbilt defensive back Reshard Langford.
Oregon Series: Tennessee's long-range football schedule added another piece to the puzzle with a deal finalized with Oregon.
The Ducks will visit Knoxville in 2010 and the Vols will travel to Oregon in 2013.
Washington to Kansas State: It didn't take long for departed UT receivers coach Pat Washington to land on his feet.
Washington has been hired at Kansas State, joining the staff of new Wildcats coach Ron Prince.
