SEC won't assign games to official

The SEC has lost another basketball official.

Jason McNeil of Atlanta won't be assigned to officiate any more SEC basketball games, according to a News Sentinel source.

SEC commissioner Mike Slive had no comment on the matter. McNeil could not be reached for comment.

Four days ago, SEC basketball official Travis Correll of Atlanta resigned. Correll's resignation came a week after a civil action was filed against him by the U. S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The suit alleges Correll and others ran a fraudulent investment scheme, which has raised more than $36 million since July 2004.

The changes in SEC officiating extend beyond the court. Slive announced Wednesday that official Gerald Boudreaux had replaced John Guthrie of Atlanta as coordinator of conference basketball officials.

Slive had no comment on the reason for the change. Guthrie said he was "terminated" after he refused to resign but wouldn't comment on the reason for his dismissal.

Boudreaux, who is regarded as one of the top basketball officials in the country, will serve as the SEC's coordinator of officials on an interim basis.

Slive said Boudreaux met with SEC basketball coaches in a teleconference Thursday and was scheduled to meet with conference basketball officials today via teleconference.

"He has turned his full attention to this leadership role within 24 hours of being appointed," Slive said. "It's very clear that he's taking firm control of the program. He's a no-nonsense guy, and I feel very comfortable with his leadership."

Slive said he and Boudreaux haven't discussed whether Boudreaux would consider taking the job on a full-time basis.
