Briarcrest football and girls basketball coach Hugh Freeze said Thursday he has been contacted by Ole Miss one of four schools in the running for Oher in regard to a position in the Rebels' football department.
Freeze, who has joined Oher in San Antonio ahead of Saturday's U.S. Army All-American Bowl, said his longtime friendship with Ole Miss offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone, now in his second stint with the Rebels, sparked the discussions.
"It's no secret that Noel Mazzone and I are good friends," Freeze said. "I've had contact with them, but I have not accepted a job ... It's flattering to be talked about in regard to a college job. Coaching in the (SEC) would be alluring to any high school coach."
Freeze has led Briarcrest to five girls basketball state titles and two football state titles in 13 years at the school.
"I love it at Briarcrest. That's a great job to have," Freeze said. "I don't mind staying there and I'm happy there. I should know more next week."
The 6-foot-5, 330-pound Oher, rated the No. 8 offensive tackle nationally by Rivals.com,
said he's "80 percent sure" he'll announce Monday whether he plans to play at Ole Miss, Tennessee, Memphis or LSU.
"I'm gonna make my decision Monday and get everything out of the way," said Oher, who still has visits to LSU and Memphis planned in the coming weeks. "I've still got to think it over. I'm 80 percent sure I'm gonna make an announcement, but I don't have no idea right now (what it will be). I'm gonna sit down and talk it over with coach Freeze."
