Court battle not impeding UT recruiting

A Memphis court battle involving Alabama booster Logan Young has raised the eyebrows of Tennessee fans, but its impact on the Vols' program appears minimal at this point.

Young is on trial on federal bribery and money-laundering charges.

UT coach Phillip Fulmer said "it is not an issue."

The recruiting rankings would seem to back up Fulmer's stance: The Vols' class of 21 commitments is ranked No. 1 in the nation by Scout.com.

Young faces a four-count indictment that charges he paid former Memphis Trezevant High School coach Lynn Lang $150,000 to ensure Albert Means enrolled at Alabama.

In Lang's testimony Thursday, he said that eight schools, including Tennessee, offered him cash and promises of jobs for his help in recruiting Means.

UT athletic director Mike Hamilton said he's confident the Vols' compliance department has done a thorough job in its investigation into allegations of potential NCAA violations involving Means' recruitment.

"Anything that has been brought up has been looked at and addressed,'' Hamilton said. "Anything we've had in terms of accusations, I'm confident we have tried to pursue and bring closure to.''
