Myers fails to qualify

UT signee to attend Hargrave Military

Two points equal 320 miles.

Tennessee signee Darius Myers will be forced to attend Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va. The Cordova High School offensive lineman said he fell two points short of qualifying academically on his latest college entrance exam. Myers signed with UT in February.

"It’s prep school," he said. "My (ACT) score was the same as it was the last time. I know it’s going to come out good in the end. I’m not disappointed at all. I’m just ready to get ready and help my teammates win some ball games."

The good news for Myers is that he will not have to spend two years of eligibility at a junior college, thanks to his satisfactory grade-point average. Instead, he will attend Hargrave and return to Knoxville with a redshirt year and four years of playing eligibility.

The same cannot be written for Harding Academy linebacker Todd Cox of Memphis. Cox will very likely attend a junior college since he does not have a salvable grade-point average.

The majority of UT’s 2005 class will arrive when the second session of summer school starts next week.

The two exceptions might be Florida linebacker Gerald Williams and Pennsylvania linebacker Andre Mathis, who are waiting to be cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse. If they are not deemed eligible before the semester begins, then the two could enroll at UT but they would be forced to pay for their schooling.

Jonathan Crompton, Josh McNeil, Malcolm Rawls, LaMarcus Coker, Raymond Henderson, Demetrice Morley, Antonio Wardlow, and Montario Hardesty enrolled for the first session of summer school. Florida wide receiver Ulysses Alexander is expected to enroll in January.
