Dickey opted out of his consulting contract effective April 30, two months prior to the date his contract was scheduled to expire on June 30, WNOX radio reported Friday.
Dickey told WNOX sports director Jimmy Hyams he was launching his own consulting firm and felt it might be a conflict of interest with his Tennessee duties.
Dickeys UT contract paid him $100,000 annually.
Former UT president Wade Gilley made the decision to hire Dickey as an athletic department consultant when Dickey stepped down as AD June 30, 2003. Mike Hamilton was hired as Dickeys successor.
