The Carter High School standout hopes his recently posted 40-yard dash time will help his college stock. Stanton said he ran a 4.78 during Saturday's NIKE camp in Athens, Ga.
"I liked it," Stanton said of competing with the southeast's elite prospects. "I felt like I did pretty good down there.
A recent spring trip to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the Blue and White game has the 5-11, 185-pound quarterback seeing powder blue as he awaits a scholarship offer.
"I've been getting the most letters from North Carolina," Stanton said. "I liked the campus. It was a good time to go down there and see the stadium. I could definitely see myself playing there."
Stanton said he has also received correspondence from Louisville and Tennessee State.
Stanton reportedly ran a 4.3 in the shuttle, bench pressed 185 pounds for 13 repetitions, and posted a 28-inch vertical leap in Saturday's combine-style camp. Stanton has also punted for Carter since his freshman year. He has started two years at quarterback.
His confidence has grown after his showing last weekend.
"It showed me that I could compete with the best," he said.
Stanton was named All-KFL by the News Sentinel for his play last season. He passed for more than 2,200 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also ran for 133 yards and 7 touchdowns. He is the all-time leading passer at Carter with 3,928 yards passing. He has also thrown for 31 touchdowns and rushed for nine scores.
