Ward sharing exposure with Tatum

Josh Tatum isn't the only McClymonds High School prospect receiving nationwide attention. Meet NaDerris Ward.

NaDerris Ward is a 6-foot-5A 1/2, 247-pound tight end from Oakland, Calif. He plays at McClymonds High School and is a cousin of Josh Tatum, who is also considering Tennessee.

Q: What schools are at the top of your list?

A: California, Oregon State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Florida, Mississippi State, Ole Miss.

Q: Where does Tennessee fit in?

A: They're a possibility. They haven't shown too much interest lately. I had been interested in them early on but they haven't talked to me much. I'm not sure how they feel about me right now.

Q: What is the status of your knee injury that you suffered while playing basketball?

A: I had an MRI on my knee to check out the cartilage. It's nothing serious. I could maybe have to have a scope, but that'd be it.

Q: Would you like to play with your cousin and current teammate Josh Tatum in college?

A: That'd be wonderful for my cousin and I to play together and be on the same campus and help the same team win.

Q: Do you two talk about playing together in college very often?

A: Absolutely. We talked last night. We settled down on some schools we'd like to possibly attend together.

Q: Which schools do you think you might visit with Josh?

A: Most likely Cal, possibly Tennessee. (Josh) has an offer from Miami. I have an offer from Florida. We'll probably go down there together.

Q: What camps will you attend this summer?

A: Cal, USC possibly, Tennessee possibly. We'll go to some together. We might go to a few separate, but for the most part they will be together.

Q: What sparked your interested in Georgia?

A: I went down there last year. It's a wonderful place to go and grow as a man, not just an athlete. The campus looks wonderful. I like the environment a lot and the coaches are real nice.

Q: How important would it be that you have family members in Georgia?

A: I've got a few cousins down there. It'd be real big if that were to happen. They could come support me. I'm debating about going out there or staying back home. I want to be able to see my family.

Q: Do you have a preference toward playing on the Eat Coast or West Coast?

A: Everything is open right now. Nothing is for sure. Everything is a possibility. I'm not looking at one place or one state specifically. The SEC is a wonderful place, but the Pac-10 is wonderful too. Everything is up in the air right now.

Q: Do you feel pressure to stay close to home?

A: Yeah there is from my little sister. I'm kind of like a father figure to her. She looks up to me. It'll definitely be a part of the decision. That's guaranteed. It'll be a main factor.

Q: What advice have you received from your family?

A: They just tell me to focus on making the right decision. I've spoken to a lot of people that have attended college. I've asked them about the decisions they've made and the opportunities they've had after attending those colleges.

Q: Do you know UT linebacker Kevin Simon?

A: I met him once. We worked out together. He told me it's (UT) a wonderful school. He said it's a wonderful environment and a great place to be.
