Since 1985, the Vols are 75-6 in the eleventh month with half of those losses coming against Notre Dame. (Note: stop scheduling the Irish, at least not in November!) All kidding aside, the Vols have traditionally dominated opponents, especially SEC neighbors Vanderbilt and Kentucky this time of year, but even those teams are encouraged about their chances against a Tennessee team still searching for it's identity.
Now the Vols face a November like none since 1988. A 0-6 start that season left the Big Orange in a desperate way, but nothing like the desperation being felt by a group of players who would have never believed and still can't believe their plight. After all, this Tennessee team was picked to win the SEC and contend for the national title. The only thing they're contending for is pride and respect. To their credit, the players have been resilient enough to do just that. You know the late Jimmy Valvano told us never to quit, and it appears as though these Vols are taking that message to heart. Their will to improve may not only translate into wins this season, but next year as well. This November and this season, for that matter, has been one to forget.
However, as in life, football memories are made one week at a time, and there's still time to make those memories well worth remembering.
