Smith says he hasn't thought much about it possibly being his last home game when the Vols play host to Vanderbilt.
"Nah, I ain't going to worry about it until after the season," Smith said Tuesday.
Smith, 6-foot-4, 306 pounds, could surpass his final year at UT for an early start in the NFL.
He might not be the only Vol leaving early.
Junior Arron Sears, considered the Vols' most versatile offensive lineman, and junior defensive tackle Justin Harrell could also opt for the NFL after this season.
Smith, however, wants to focus on winning two more games and playing in a bowl. He will have time to think about the NFL once the season ends.
"I feel that would take away from the team if you worry about that," he said. "That's not the stuff you worry about right now. You worry about beating Vandy and Kentucky."
Smith has 22 consecutive starts since the beginning of the 2004 season. He has twice been chosen as the SEC Lineman of the Week -- against Georgia this year and Vanderbilt last year.
His focus isn't solely on football.
Smith, a two-time Academic All-SEC selection, could have graduated this semester had he not chosen to take Arabic as his foreign language.
One of his goals is to work in the FBI once his football days are over, and jobs in counter-terrorism are in high demand for someone who can speak Arabic.
For now, though, Smith isn't thinking much about the FBI -- or the NFL. He wants to finish out the season with the best possible results.
"I wanted it to be a lot better," he said. "I wanted it to be on a higher note than this. I wanted to at least go out with a bowl. You don't want the '02 class to be the one that broke the streak (of 16 consecutive bowls)."
