Vols have big plans for Little
Rafael Little, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound sophomore, leads the Wildcats in rushing (1,002 yards), all-purpose yardage (180.6 yards per game), and pass receptions (35).
Little also leads the SEC and is fifth in the nation in punt return average (17.3 yards) and is fourth in the nation in all-purpose yards.
Tennessee will get an up-close look at Little on Saturday in Lexington, Ky.
"He's a really good player, very, very talented, really good with the ball in his hands, a great return guy," Tennessee defensive coordinator John Chavis said. "He was leading the country in all-purpose yardage (at one point), and I think when you're doing something like that, it says something pretty special about you."
Little ran for 198 yards and three touchdowns against Vanderbilt on Nov. 12 and has four other 100-yard rushing games. He had a career-high 372 total yards against Vanderbilt, second-most in school history.
The Wildcats will get the football to Little any way possible.
"They run the zone play, they do a lot of things with him from that standpoint," Chavis said. "They run the toss, they get the ball out of the backfield throwing it to him, doing a lot of things with him from that standpoint. As many ways as you can imagine getting the ball in his hands, they do it."
His backup, Arliss Beach, is questionable for the Tennessee game with an ankle injury. He didn't play last week against Georgia and was hurt the previous week against Vanderbilt.
The Wildcats lost at Georgia 45-13 and lost at Vanderbilt 48-43 Nov. 12.
In three others losses, the Wildcats put up 24 or more points -- against Louisville (31-24), Florida (49-28), and Auburn (49-27).
"They're a football team that can put the points on the board," Chavis said. "I think you saw that the week before (against Vanderbilt) and certainly when you start looking at the points they've put on the board you've got to be impressed."
