SEC East

Georgia cornerback DeMario Minter expects all hands on deck for Saturday SEC championship game. "It's not hard to get up for this game," Minter said. "If you're hurt, you've got to play. If you're sick, you've got to play. You sacrifice everything to play in a game like this."... The Bulldogs have a chance to finish the season with three consecutive games in Atlanta. Last week, they won at Georgia Tech, 14-7. If they win Saturday in the Georgia Dome, they'll play there again in the Sugar Bowl. That bowl has been temporarily moved from New Orleans because of Hurricane Katrina damage to the Louisiana Superdome and the rest of the New Orleans area. ... Georgia coach Mark Richt is just one of nine head coaches in Division 1-A history to have recorded 50 or more wins in his first five seasons. Richt is 51-12. ... Georgia senior nose tackle Gerald Anderson will be playing in his third SEC championship game, winning over Arkansas in 2002 and losing to LSU in '03. "This isn't a revenge game," Anderson said. "But it is another shot at LSU after what they did to us a couple of years ago in the (Georgia) Dome."

Even with Les Miles in his first year as LSU's coach, Richt doesn't expect any surprises from the Nick Saban-coached Tigers' teams he previously battled. "LSU still has the same type of athletes it had back then," Richt said. "They have great looking athletes who are well coached and who know how to win. And they've won a lot the last few years." The only miniscule change Richt sees with the Miles-coached Tigers is the defensive philosophy. "Their blitz package is as diverse as before and they blitz quite a bit," Richt said. "They just don't blitz as much as Coach Saban's bunch."... Georgia has scored nine defensive TDs since Richt became coach in 2001, including one this season. ... Five Georgia players already have accepted invitations to play in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 28. They are quarterback D.J. Shockley, offensive guard Max Jean-Giles, safety Greg Blue, cornerback Tim Jennings and Minter.

Perhaps the most admired player on the Georgia team is fifth-year senior quarterback Shockley, who patiently waited his turn the last three seasons behind David Greene. "I'm so happy for him because of everything that he had to go through," Georgia tailback Thomas Brown said. "He has done a tremendous job. He has stepped up his level of being a leader on this team."... Georgia has scored on five of its opening possessions this year and has allowed five teams to score on their first possession against the Bulldogs. ... This year's 13-man Georgia senior class could become just second class to finish ranked in the Associated Press top 10 four consecutive years (along with the 1983 class). This year's senior class is 43-8, including 3-0 in bowl games. The best four-year record for a Georgia senior class was the Class of '83 that went 43-4-1, including a 1980 national championship and three consecutive SEC titles ('80, '81, '82). ... Richt feels comfortable playing on the Georgia Dome's FieldTurf artificial surface. "We have it on our practice fields," he said.
