Luke to be hired

Tennessee is expected to name Matt Luke as its next tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Thursday, filling the vacancy left open by Greg Adkins who was reassigned to UT’s offensive line, a source told the News Sentinel.

Luke coached tight ends and was Ole Miss’ recruiting coordinator during David Cutcliffe’s tenure and is still on the Rebels’ staff. Cutcliffe was announced as UT’s offensive coordinator Monday. Luke played center at Ole Miss from 1995-98 and started 33 games.

Luke fills one of the two positions on the staff vacated by the dismissal of offensive line coach Jimmy Ray Stephens and wide receiver coach Pat Washington.

UT’s final hire is still undecided.

UT head coach Phillip Fulmer is likely to divvy up special teams’ responsibilities among his coaching staff instead of hiring a special teams’ coordinator, another source said. Defensive ends coach Steve Caldwell had previously overseen the kicking game.
