Adams: Allison's craft of right picks earns full-time job

Andy is out. Allison is in.

Just two weeks after saying "Andy is my guy," picks panel administrator John Adams said Allison will be the permanent picker for the Andy & Allison team.

"I think it's important to be flexible and open-minded," the controversial picks panel administrator told picks panel beat reporter John Adams. "I still believe Andy has a great future and can be a championship picker.

"But right now, it's in the best interest of the panel to go with Allison."

Adams asked Adams if his decision had anything to do with the recruitment of Allison's son, Christopher Randall, who is regarded by recruiting analysts as a "picks phenom."

"You know I can't comment on recruiting," Adams told Adams. "Andy's picking speaks for itself. He was 4-11 two weeks ago. Last week, he was on vacation, and Allison picked for him. She correctly picked two big underdogs, Memphis and Oregon State."

Randall, who attended the Knoxville picks panel youth camp as a kid, said last week that he wasn't considering the Knoxville panel. He made that announcement the day after his mother was benched in favor of Andy.

Switcheroo II: UT senior Christopher Randall, who is regarded as a "picks phenom" by recruiting analysts, said the Knoxville panel is his No. 1 choice after he graduates.

Two weeks ago, he said he wasn't considering Knoxville, where he attended the picks panel youth camp as a kid.

David Hooks, a recruiting analyst for pickspanelxtra.com, asked Randall if his decision was influenced by his mother's reinstatement on the panel.

"You're supposed to be the recruiting guru, David," Randall said. "What do you think?"

Discontent Fans: Fans discontent with the lack of upset picks from the Knoxville picks panel have started a new Web site: "firephilkaplan.com." Kaplan, who is the picks panel upset coordinator, has been under fire since early in the season because of a lack of successful upset picks from the pickers.

"That goes with the territory," Kaplan said. "But as I said last week, I can only offer advice. I can't make the picks for them."

Picks panel administrator John Adams said, "If I could have any upset coordinator in the country, I'd still pick Phil Kaplan. Fans are pointing fingers at the wrong person.

"Why doesn't someone start a website called "firetinawesson.com." or "firesherrydraper.com." Both of them are highly touted pickers who have picked way below expectations this season. And there are plenty of other examples as well.

"It's not a coaching problem. It's a picking problem."

Picks Championship: The picks panel championship will be determined during the last week of the regular season and not after the bowl picks, according to picks panel administrator John Adams.

"We feel like the regular-season picks are a better barometer for determining the champion," Adams said in an exclusive interview with picks panel beat reporter John Adams. "The winner of the coveted Arf Adams Memorial Trophy will be announced the week of the bowl picks."

Mail Bag: Picks panel fan Sam King wrote: "I read in last week's picks panel column that alternate picker Rick O'Shea was killed by a ricochet bullet. 'Rick O'Shea' and 'ricochet': Is that some kind of a joke?"

Picks Panel Response: What is wrong with you? Do you actually think we would joke about the death of an alternate picker?

You need help.
