Tight end Goggans commits to UT

As the season begins, so does Tennessee's recruiting momentum.

The Vols picked up their seventh commitment of the 2006 class when Michael Goggans picked UT over several SEC and ACC schools.

The tight end from Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, Ala., had been expected to commit to UT since he made a somewhat surprising second visit to UT on Aug. 20 during one of the Vols' pre-season scrimmages.

At that point, it was obvious that the Vols had an inside track to beating out their closest competition, Alabama.

Goggans is the second tight end to commit to UT. Lee Smith of Powell committed to UT in February.

Jacques McClendon of Baylor School in Chattanooga was UT's first commitment of the 2006 class.

Alcoa running back/linebacker Dustin Lindsey and tight end Luke Stocker from Madison High School in Berea, Ky., are the other two high school prospects that have committed to UT.

UT has also received commitments from Walter Fisher of Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College and Darius Myers from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va. Both had previously committed to UT before falling short academically.
