Following UT policy, the release did not detail what the violation is, however, Hendrix was charged with possession of marijuana and driving without a license on Aug. 13 in his hometown of Covington, Ga.
"I am disappointed in some of the decisions that Jemere has made," Pearl said. "We have a set of expectations for our student-athletes, both on and off the court, and he has not met them."
Hendrix was stopped by a Georgia State Patrol office on Aug. 13 and taken into custody, according to police records. The marijuana offense with which Hendrix was charged is a misdemeanor. He posted $1,780 bond and was released. He has been attending classes at UT.
Hendrix, a 6-foot-8 forward, averaged 2.6 points and 2.7 rebounds for the Vols last season.
He originally signed with Clemson University out of high school, but transferred to UT after suffering a season-ending stress fracture. He sat out the 2002-03 season then started 14 games as a sophomore the next season, averaging 6.8 points and 6.2 rebounds.
His playing time diminished his junior year, but he had hopes of being a big part of Pearl's first year in which the up-tempo, aggressive style would play to his strengths.
