While UT athletic director Mike Hamilton said he was hoping for a day game to make it easier for Vol fans to drive from far-away hotels, LSU is pushing for a traditional night game, according to the Baton Rouge Morning Advocate.
The Morning Advocate said LSU favors a kickoff at either 7 or 7:45 p.m. (EST) on ESPN over a 3:30 p.m. game on CBS. ESPN has first rights.
Hamilton said earlier this week he anticipated an announcement soon from the SEC on whether the game schedule would be altered by the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina last week.
However, nothing may be coming prior to Monday, the deadline for ESPN to announce its choice of SEC games on Sept. 24.
LSU has cancelled a cross-country meet scheduled for Baton Rouge on Sept. 24, the same day as the Tennessee-LSU football game. The meet was cancelled because the school could not guarantee housing for the 200 athletes projected to compete due to the influx of evacuees from Katrina.
LSU's football team will wear decals on its helmets this season bearing a fleur-de-lis, the symbol of the city of New Orleans flag. The Tigers open their season at Arizona State on Saturday.
